ch 35. Light in Darkness

I was task with dealing with monster beyond the wall, this is one of the way to keep the monster away... But I don't like who's with me...

That's right, it's the prince in his personal guard Anthony along with other students and knights

It was awkward to be in the same group as the prince, specially his body guard who keeps glaring at me when he had a chance

One of the knight then calls out, an ogre was spotted, so I went with them..

The ogre was huge and is holding a tree trunk using it as a club..there's a system when taking down monster like this in a group, it make things safer and more proficient for everyone

The magic support would attack to weaken it and the frontliners would attack finishing it off ..that's what we have been doing all this time..not only it saves a lot of stamina for the front liners, it also saves mana from the magic users behind

I charge towards the weakened ogre, jumping to deliver a slash right to its neck to kill it

"Good job!"

"Well done kid!"

"Excellent!" The knights complimented me, well... They did compliment everyone who did a good job for the team

"You have an excellent swordsmanship..just like before" the prince approach me, for some reason..

"Thanks?" I said looking at him

"You still have a lot of distrust towards me huh?"

". . . ."

"I understand, I made a lot of mistakes when... Nevermind"

Then he finally leave me alone, I guess he really felt bad about what happened back then..

"Everyone! We are done here today! Let's head back to camp!" Said the one leading us

I was just walking by myself at this point, making small conversation every now and then with the members

"Hey.. what's that?" One of the student with us pointed out

And when I look, it was smoke coming from the direction if our camp.. everyone was shocked to see the black smoke, it's clearly from a fire

Fearing that it might be a emergency I just run toward the camp leaving the other behind, I was then followed by the prince "what are you guys waiting for!?" The prince shouted as he followed me along with the others

When I got closer, the walls are under attack by wolves..but something is wrong with them..their eyes are glowing red..and their bodies are deformed to have large claws and very large muscles with veins glowing with the same color as their eyes 

Two of this wolves would charge towards me..and in my surprised they are faster than as expected one would leap high from the ground and try to claw me from above, but I raised my shield and blocked it..the large claw is strong enough to damage the shield..so I can't rely on it that much

The other one charged at me with the same incredible speed but this time I anticipated its attack and use my sword to cut it's head off

The one that jump toward me tries to attack again but it was hit by arrows of flames killing it

It was the prince who did it as means to help me..with us back, the knight are able to stop the attack

But the smoke isn't coming from the outside of the walls, it was inside

Another explosion occur from the inside of the wall, so I rush back inside..

Just to see a man with gray skin and blood red eyes..his hair is white with black horns coming out from the sides of his head...

Yes... Even at first glance this thing is a demon... There hasn't been an appearance of one for hundreds of years.. to think that one would appear now... Is this part of the original storyline perhaps?

"Thomas! Please stay with me!" That voice...and when I look.. it was Anna shaking ..Thomas.. a lifeless body of Thomas missing his right arm up to its shoulders

"Tom!" I rush towards them...

"D-desmond! T-thomas is...Thomas is"

This is the first time that I felt like this... And probably do as Anna... Our dear friend is laying on the ground lifeless "I-..I was suppose to be the on who got hit by the demon's magic...h-he.."

The demon looked at us with a cold stare before stretching his arms aiming a magical attack toward me and Anna..but he was stopped by the duke.. the duke was visibly tired by battling this demon..

I stand up..aiming to help and kill that bastard myself.. but Cassandra suddenly grabbed my arm "you can't! We are to evacuate this place! We will only be hindering the knights and my father!"

"Let me go! I will cut that piece of crap my self!"

She wasn't able to stop me by just  by holding onto my arm..she start to hug onto me to get a better hold "please!!"

Looking at her face..I'm sure that she also doesn't want to leave her father alone.. but it was her duty as the heir to make sure to do what's logical..

The demon gets an upper hand and with a punch send the duke tumbling onto the ground...

The demon looked at us again... We won't able to escape even if we want... This demon would just hunt us down

"Leave with Anna!" Suddenly I felt that I knew what to do..Anna is the protagonist of this world..she can't die here! And with Cassandra by her side..even if I die..

"No!" Cassandra exclaimed "don't you dare do what I'm thinking!"

I push her away... And charges at the demon attacking it with my sword, but it only dodges and even catch my blade

"Foolish... You should've run when you had a chance" said the demon smirking

With my sword in his grasp I can't do a single thing as he charge up a magic trying to shoot me along with Anna and Cassandra behind me... I can feel it..even if I block the attack with my shield, it would still destroy us

"Run you two!!!" I shouted at them...

Cassandra looked at me in horror...she knows what I'll gonna do

As I try my best to distract the demon with my fist and trying to pull my sword back from his grasp

"Anna! We have to go! Now!" I can feel the pain in her voice as she try to pull Anna away from Thomas

"N-no! W-we can't just leave! No! Not like this! It can't end like this!!!"

"What that!?" The demons was surprised...

There was a sudden surge of holy magic from Anna... And it cancels  the demonic attacks if the demon

He was even push back by the wave of golden mana bursting from Anna..

Cassandra is shock to what we are seeing... Is this it? Does she awaken her power?

"How can that girl have this much holy power!"

Thank to what Anna did... I have my sword back.. and something is off with it.. I can feel it absorbing the holy powers around it as it glows a golden light

And when the Burt of holy magic ends..Anna just collapses from exhaustion, thankfully Cassandra was there to catch her

But the holy magic remains

"It's your chance kid!" The duke shouted

And when I look at the demon... His body is full of burns from the holy magic emitted by Anna..and he looks way weaker than before

"You think you can win because of this!? Bring it on human!!!!"
