"cakes and kettledrums? thats your next plan? sending a little girl into the darkest parts of the forest? alone?!"trumpkin asked "its our only chance" i tell him "and she wont be alone" susan adds

"havent enough of us died already?" he asked "nikabrik was our friend too but he lost hope"trufflehunter spoke for both of us,referring to when he helped the white witch "queen lucy hasent and neither have i" reep pulled out his sword

"for aslan" i smile at him and bring out my sword "for my father" "for aslan" a bear said from across from me "then i'm going with you" trumpkin told lucy

"no,we need you here"lucy tells him softly "we have to hold them off until lucy and susan get back" peter said "if i may?" caspian spoke,i saw peter look at me in the corner of my eye before turning to caspian and nodding.

i smile slightly at them "miraz may be a tyrant and a murderer,but as king,he is subject to the traditions and expectations of his people,there is one in particular that may buy us some time"

"a duel" i say in realization and caspian nods as the others look at me "what?" i shrug "we had a huge library in our castle" i tell them and i see ed and lucy grin at me in amusement.

me,ed,glenstorm,and a giant walked to the telmarine camp grounds to deliver the massage,me coming along for the-uh protection of edmund,at least thats what i'm telling myself.

"i,peter,the gift of aslan,by election and by conquest,high king of narnia,lors of cair paravel and emperor of the lone islands,in order to prevent the abominable effusion of blood,do hereby challenge the usurper miraz to single combat upon the field of battle,the fight shall be to the death.the reward shall be total surrender"

ed finishes and rolls up the scroll "tell me,prince edmund-" "king" i cut miraz off "pardon me?" he asked and me and edmund turn to each other smirking

"its king edmund actually,just king though,peters the high king,i know its confusing" ed finishes and they stayed silent for a few seconds "why would we risk such a proposal when our armies could wipe you out by nightfall?" he asks

"havent you already underestimated our numbers?" "i mean only a week ago narnians were extinct" i finish for edmund and i have to bite my lip to hide the wide smile slowly etching itself on my face

"and so you will be again" "well then you should have little to fear" i say with a grin and small chuckle,miraz laughs

"this is not a question of bravery" "so you're bravely refusing to fight a swordsman half your age?" ed asked and i buried my head into his shoulder to suppress my laughs as my shoulders shake silently.

i can feel ed trying to keep it together too and me laughing isn't helping. "i didn't say i refused" miraz said leaning forward

"you have our support your majesty,whatever your decision" a man spoke up "sire,our military advantage alone provides the perfect excuse to avoid what might be otherwise be-" miraz cut off lord sopespian

"i'm not avoiding anything" miraz draws his sword "i was merely pointing out that my lord is well within his rights to refuse" "his majesty would never refuse" glozelle spoke

"he relishes the chance to show the people the courage of their new king" "you.you should hope your brother's sword is sharper than his pen" he says and we walk off

i burst into laughter once we get far away enough from their camp and ed looks at me amused

"i'm sorry but did you not find that terribly amusing?" i ask still grinning like an idiot

"i swear he was two seconds away from chopping your head off" he tells me but i just wink at him before skipping forward with glenstorm and eventually returning to the how

"whats got you all smiley?" susan asked and this brings the attention to everyone else "lets just say me and ed found our trip very amusing" we chuckle

"i swear miraz was about to kill her because she couldn't stop laughing and failed miserably at hiding it" edmund said from behind me.

something flickered through peters eyes,jealousy? probably but as he stared at his brother and kira,he knew what was happening before they did,they were falling in love,and he knew that because edmund was looking at kira,exactly how peter looked at her when he first saw her in professor kirke's mansion.

but he was happy that out of everyone it was his brother,did it still hurt? yes,and that was okay.

(a/n: i loved this chapter😂 i dont know why but i always wanna laugh in the scene when edmund delivers the message,but i thought it would be good to add some happy stuff before the war and yada yada yada.....
