i know i said i was done with twitter, and for the most part i am, but i just wanted to come on here and say a few words, specifically in thanks to the members of alphatauri for making last night so memorable.
but first i need to start at the beginning: i have always been connected to live music, never felt more at home than in a sea of people connected by the band on stage. it's a feeling that i chase vigorously.
during my first year at what was then toro rosso, we were in shibuya for a few days before the japanese grand prix of 2018. i still felt like a fish out of water, and it was a very tough week for me mentally, and i knew i needed to get back to something familiar. so lance and i bought concert tickets. it was a group we had never heard of before, who sang almost entirely in japanese. but we went with it, mostly for the experience.
it was a hip hop group called dobermaninfinityofficial. we were the only people from outside japan in the arena that night, but i never felt like an outsider. lance and i, as the naïve eighteen year olds we were, were welcomed with open arms by the concertgoers. they opened that night with a cover of jump around by house of pain, a song that i grew up listening to on the beaches in queensland. that night changed me for the better, reminded me that wherever i was in the world, or what i was going through, i always had a place to call home. i would always be welcomed with open arms.
and that brings us to last night. in the midst of a season that is weighing so much on me mentally, franz and jake gifted me one last thing before i leave at the end of the season. the team was able to get me side-stage tickets to watch doberman infinity live on their lost and found japan tour, as well as bringing me face to face with sway and kazuki. words cannot convey how much last night meant to me.
