As the cruiser drove through, Bella and I took in this logging town that was her hometown. I saw that every storefront has a wood carving. The Timber Museum's sign is two loggers sawing a stump. The police station was a small wooden building across from City Hall.

The cruiser pulled up to the old two-story house, and woodshed full of firewood. There's a small boat in the garage with fishing gear and an old buoy. We climbed out. Charlie opened the trunk and helped us carry our bags inside. The house wasn't stylish as the only new thing here is a Flat Screen T.V.

But it's comfortable lived-in. Lots of fishing memorabilia; photos of Charlie fishing with someone. Handmade cards to "Daddy" and photos of Bella. She winces at herself, age 7, when she visited her father, in a tutu, sitting stubbornly on the ground. I smiled as I took a picture. Bella pushed me playfully.

"I put Grandpa's old desk in your room," Charlie told us. "And I cleared some shelves in the bathroom." "That's right. One bathroom," Bella grimaced. "Odette, you can sleep in the guest bedroom I put together. I bought a new desk for you as well," Charlie told me as I nodded. "Thank you" I smiled. I see Charlie as a father figure.

Bella's eye lands on a photo of a much younger version of her parents, on vacation, beaming with love. "I'll just put these up in your room-," Charlie told us. "I can do it," Bella replied as they both reached for the bags, bumping one another awkwardly.
