Guys, we are about 1/4 done with this book. I can't believe it. And lucky you, two chapters in a row of Raphael. (about 44,000 words right now :o)

Chapter Nine: Raphael - Unedited, I warned you!

The doctor probed a needle deep in my vein, and I had to supress a growl from lashing out at her. I was attached to a machine that was about to gobble up my blood and transfer it over to Cora. Her heart rate had slowed even more in the past few hours, and I demanded for the doctor to do the transfusion now.

"Good thing, you're an Alpha," The doctor said more to herself than anything. If I were any other wolf, the amount of blood she was taking from me  would cause me to slacken, and even fall into my own state of unconsciousness. I was stronger than most though. I could withstand the pain. She didn't need another important figure lying limply in a hopsital bed.

Hero had her face buried deep in her hands to hide the tears that slithered down her face, and Orion had left to attend to his pack duties. She had expressed her obvious distaste for me on numerous occasions, but right now, I was her only hope to waking her daughter up. Cora was more mine than hers.

Once the machine buzzed, I felt the sudden wave of dizziness come across me. It was gone as fast as it came, and I turned to watch the glass cylinder slowly fill up with my potent, dark blood.

"Now, I'm going to let that work for about fifteen minutes. I'll leave you alone." She walked out of the room with the door clicking closed behind her.

Hero didn't bother to pay me any attention. I returned the favor, and didn't mind her either. Her sobs were getting irritating though. Did she use up all her tears yet, because I god hoped so.

I distracted myself by watching the gradual rise and fall of Cora's chest. With every breath she took, I felt relieved that she was still alive.

My wolf on the otherhand had gone into a silent withdrawl. He was slowly losing himself to the pessimism.

I still couldn't fathom the fact that not only was she an original wolf, she was the hybrid. I was given such a fascinating and powerful creature as a mate, and she didn't even realize it. I would do everything to ensure she was safe. I wouldn't let her fall into the dark pit of herself. Her other self that is-- it seems her wolf also has a secret apprentice. A vampire.

Hero finally stopped crying and pried her face from the palms of her hands. She looked at me with hazel eyes before turning her gaze into a glower. She still believed I was the reason behind her daughter's near death experience.

In a way, I was. I wasn't the immediate cause. Loren should have known better. That mutt would have to pay for what he did because it was fucking unacceptable to touch her. It was beyond disrespectful to attempt to mark and stake claim on something that wasn't for him to claim. Marking an unwilling wolf was just as bad as rape.

I bit back the snarl growing deep in my throat. Whenever Loren was mentioned, I immediately put my defenses and readied myself to attack.

"Do you love her?" Hero suddenly stammered out words. Her voice was quiet, and hushed as were her eyes. Her hazel irises were resigned. "Or is she just some pet to you?"

The question sparked a million other questions within my head. I knew deep down, I did feel something for her. Whether I had wanted to or not, I did, and I was done denying it.

Cora was the living definition of flawless perfection. She had long dark locks that flowed down her back, and unblemished olive skin. Her alert yet passion filled green eyes filled mine with a newfound perspective. Her lips were just the right amount of plump which aligned precisely well with the rest of her features. She had the ideal woman's body, yet didn't even realize it. Her loud mouth might've been irritating at times, but I had to admit, I loved how she dared to argue with me. She wasn't weak or submissive, and it gave her a great deal of spunk. At the same time, I've seen the specks of care and loyalty flash across her eyes. As much as she tried to act like she didn't need anyone, I knew deep down Cora was yearning for affection from someone.
