Fai's P.O.V

The following morning, May starts to further insert her dominance. She makes a grand announcement about how she'll be going to the palace no matter what happens. I'm pretty sure she scared some girls and made enemies all at once. I sat back and admired her walking around the small room in confidence. Daring anyone to go up against her.

"Hi Fai," She says hugging me. Sometimes I think about how close and yet so different we are. I remember when May came up to me during class when we were toddlers. I thought she was going to bully me, but to everyone's surprise, she grabbed me by my arm and told everyone that I was her best friend.

Since I was young I realize that the majority of the town was only nice to me out of pity whereas May never showed me fake emotions, she was always truthful to me and vice versa. We confine ourselves to each other, no secrets kept from one another.

"I see you're already making yourself known, just like you did when we were in school," I say giving her a fake frown.

"That was nothing, I was just making sure everyone knew their place," She says flipping her hair. Her mood changes from teasing to seriousness. "Plus you know how important going to the castle is to me."

I gave her an understanding nod. May hasn't seen her mother since she was ten years old, the only thing she has is the letters that she sent her. Apparently, she is an actress at the castle, and entertaining royalty is a lot of work. "What if you don't make the cut May?" I ask, trying to make sure she does not get her hopes up too much.

"I will burn this place to the ground unless you go and become Queen, and I know you would tell her everything for me."

"Trust me, I am not going to win at all," I tell her. "The only reason Charles did not eliminate me is that he believes I will make a fine concubine, just like Ray's parents."

"Now, I'm definitely making sure you win so you can fire that old man."
