The last few weeks are family has been going through changes, that's good because life would be boring if we didn't look on the brighter side of things and realise that everything changes eventually

But I think the biggest change is that my son found the courage to open his heart again and I couldn't be more proud of that I just really want him to be happy and after his heart got broken ,I saw something on him I never wanted to see he became like me and Damon for a time where we were so lost and broke him that we ended up becoming the monsters that we tried so hard not to be

So that is why I decided to have a father and Son day to have that one on one conversation that I believe that we desperately need

"Dad I don't know what this is about but if you're paying for burgers I'm all up for it "Zach said to me

I smiled at him he reminded me so much of Emily "I just wanted to have a one-on-one conversation, you and hope dating is not a problem for me or your mother but what is a problem is you feeling like you can't talk to us about it, I just wanted you to know that no matter what you do in this world me and your mother will always be proud of you "I said to him

"I know that I can talk to you and mum about anything that's how you raised me and my sisters, but this was something that I had to do on my own, because after being cheated on by her I didn't think that I would ever trust anyone with my heart again but meeting hope it was like looking in the mirror had a girl who has been in the same position I have been in and I'm really like her, and I don't know what the future holds but I really am looking forward to seeing where our paths take us together " he said and I could totally tell he was thinking about hope

"Well I just want you to know that I am proud of you for realising that you are worth more than what that girl did to you, but all I'm asking for you is to be careful because I know that you were going to do what's best for you, but you have two older sisters and a younger sister who are very concerned that you were going to lock your heart up aware if this relationship doesn't work out, they are not saying that you and hope I'm going to work there just very worried that the broken and isolated Zachary is going to come back so please just be careful for them and for your mother"

He nodded his head "Dad I completely understand where my sisters are coming from they are worried and I don't blame them, I was a horrible person after what she did to me I've made some mistakes that I am not proud of, but when I'm with hope it's like the world gets brighter and I just feel free that I'm just Zachary Salvatore taking his girlfriend out  instead of being a magic loophole in a supernatural world in that moment "

"Hey I completely understand where you're coming from it's hard being different in the supernatural world, and I just wanna say how proud I am of you and your sisters for getting through it, it's not easy, that was the worry your mother and I had for a lot of years but at the end of the day our children push through insured not just us but the world what incredible people you are and your mother and I couldn't be more proud "

He smiled at me " well if you're being honest if it wasn't for you and mum me and my sisters wouldn't of got as far as we did, the four of us have had some issues through the years and you and mum have stood by us, you helped us get up when we felt like it was impossible to stand on our own 2 feet again and I can't thank you both enough for doing that and that is why I love you both so much "

I smiled and laughed at him" Zachary you and your sisters never have to thank us for standing by you that is what we call a parents job and I don't care when you are 30 years old I am still going to be stood there waiting to catch you no matter what because that is my job as your father and it is the best job that I've ever ever had "I said to him

He got up and pulled me into a hug "I love you dad "
