I struggle to tear my eyes away from him. Fatigued bags hang under his eyes and his skin is a pale, gaunt colour. Even his hair is unkempt and tangled. It seems as though the twin evils of death and exhaustion have attacked him. Despite the mess of his appearance, he remains unchanged; beautiful. I battle against my limbs and dispute with my mind as I almost sucuumb to the urge to run to him.

"Carson you have crossed the line. Take her back to the cell now." Grayson says coldly. Its not his harshness that truly bothers me, but more his apparent lack of acknowledgement of my presence.

"Knight this is too important. Elle and I need to speak to you."

"I am busy."

Carson turns towards Andrea who is glancing nervously between the two men.

"Cancel all of his meetings Andrea and call Daniel; this will take the rest of the day." Carson orders. Andrea is torn once again - her face expresses everything.

Grayson's face contorts into one of pure, unadulterated fury. His jaw clenches and he fists tighten again. However, he does not move from his spot on the ledge. The high ground.

"You have no authority here Carson." Grayson says in a strained voice, having trouble speaking due to his clenched jaw. "Now leave before I kill you for assisting with escape attempt and for disobeying orders."

He doesn't look at me. Not even once. I bite my lip as Carson falls silent.

"Grayson this is not an escape attempt-" I say before he cuts me off.

"Carson." Grayson snarls, not sparing me a glance. "You have your orders - now act on them."

"Don't make me do it Knight." Carson says sternly after a few moments of deliberation. I stare at him curiously. Do what?

"You have no evidence. Besides she deserted first." Grayson replies immediately, seemly calmly and obviously knowing what Carson is referring to. But the underlying anger in his tone is too obvious to be masked.

"The government will still investigate - the amount of publicity even the claim alone will receive will launch a full scale operation. You haven't exactly covered your tracks." Carson replies.
