Author's POV...

"Sakshi, what the hell are you doing?" Meera scolded Sakshi and snatched away Sakshi's whisky glass.

"M-eee-r-aa I am not drunk! I promise" Sakshi said. Sakshi and Meera were on the terrace at their flat, to celebrate the New Year but it looks like Sakshi is a bit too drunk.

"You promised me that you will only have two drinks! You have had way more than two drinks now. Please stop!" Meera pleaded.

Sakshi smiled at Meera

"I promise I only had two drinks... well three" Sakshi's words slurred as she spoke, along with that, she was struggling to balance herself as well.

"Can I have one more drink? Please Meera" Sakshi begged Meera

"No way! Come let's go inside, it is freezing here" Meera said, shivering. She rubbed her hands together to keep herself warm. Then Meera dragged Sakshi by her arm to their room.

"You can't just be drinking so much. At least think about your mother and Niece. Who else do they have other than you?" Meera asked Sakshi sadly.

"You know it is New Year 's Eve today. Don't you?" Sakshi asked Meera quietly

"Yes, so?"

"You know what that means to me. Don't you, Meera?"

"Sakshi, it's been bloody so many years now after that incident. Nikhil's moved on and just like that you've got to move on as well. For goodness sake, it is almost going to be 2022. Start fresh! Please, at least for me!" Meera said.

"It all feels like yesterday. Can't still bear the fact that I am going into another year without my Nikhil..." Sakshi said this time without slurring.

Just then Sakshi picked up her glass for another drink which Meera promptly grabbed and hid away. Suddenly Sakshi grabbed her phone from the table and opened WhatsApp. "Oh for f*** sake look at Meera, he changed his profile picture again. Look at him holding a pregnant Shradda's belly. Bastard! He never wanted a child when I was with him. Look at him now!" Sakshi shouted in anger.

Sakshi then clutched onto her phone tightly and said "You know what he said that day? WE ARE DONE! What does he mean by that? I am not fucking done!" Sakshi was saying all this under the influence of alcohol.

"Sakshi, please put that phone down. The last thing I want is you calling him" but Sakshi dodged to avoid Meera who lunged for Sakshi's phone. Suddenly, Sakshi began to sob "I miss him Meera. I bloody miss him!" Meera then gently sat next to Sakshi and hugged her "his WhatsApp profile picture and Instagram is the only connection I have with him" Sakshi said.

"I know you miss him, Sakshi but it's been years. You should move on just like he did" Meera was Sakshi's best friend. She always did her best to help Sakshi get over him but often it's in vain. Meera is from Chennai currently residing with Sakshi in this flat.

"Sakshi, I think you should just turn your phone off," Meera said.

"It's been four crazy years. I still can't believe" Sakshi said, changing the topic.

"I know Sakshi," Meera gently said.

"What do you know, Meera?"

"That you and Nikhil met in college, fell in love, eloped then got married. And due to unfortunate circumstances, you two had to divorce and he bloody moved on and you still have not." Meera said, slightly raising her voice. She was fed up with the same conversation. "Want to have dinner?" Meera asked, hoping to change the topic.

"Yes, that's right my friend. You are correct" Sakshi said as her feet found it hard to find the floor. Meera Immediately held her tight to prevent her from falling. Just then Sakshi's phone rang, it was Damini, her mother. Sakshi cut the call quickly.

"Why did you cut the call?" Meera asked

"I hate that lady, for ruining my life and mostly for bringing my brother into this world. Even after those entire incidents, Nikhil and I tried to work our relationship. She filled my head with nonsense and made me feel guilty for my brother's death. If only she stopped him from marrying Arpana to get that damn wealth, if only she put some sense into him when he acted like he died, if only she wasn't such a bad mother, both my brother and I would be happy now" Sakshi shouted.

"Oh Sakshi please. Calm down" Meera said.

                                                                                . . . . . . . . .
