At the end of the school day, Kayla and Stefan walked out of Math class together while he tried to apologize for the 4th time today
"I'm sorry about forgetting the leaves Kayla"
"I don't want your apology, I wanted the leaves. How does one go on a walk, surrounded by leaves and not bring home a single leaf when asked?" Kayla questioned
"During lunch I went and picked up a bunch of leaves around school and when we get home I'll go back outside and get more, just for you" Stefan offered
"I bet if Elena asked for the leaves you wouldn't have forgotten" Kayla teased as Stefan rolled his eyes as he pulled out a zip lock bag with leaves
"Yea yea, take the leaves and forgive me"
Chuckling, Kayla took the bag "You're partially forgiven, I wanted the leaves in the forest wouldn't be crushed from people stepping on them. It's for one of my projects"
"Oh that's right, your an artist"
The two continued down the hall as Kayla greeted a few people she knew before looking at Stefan who hadn't turned to walk out the front door
"You coming to cheer practice or something?"
Shaking his head with a smile, Stefan replied "Uh I'm gonna try my had at football"
"School sports? You? Let me guess, gorilla grip said it'd be a good idea?"
The elder Salvatore frowned his brows in confusion
"Gorilla grip?"
Clapping her hands around her mouth to stop a snort, Kayla turnt to the side to hide her face
"My bad. Elena, suggested it?"
Still confused, Stefan nodded
"Figured as much. Welp maybe you can help the team out. They suck"
Stefan and Kayla stopped at the locker room by the field
"Don't you cheer for them?"
"I look good in mini skirts. Who would I be to strip the world of that?"
"Bye Kayla"
Stefan opened the door to the football field, leaving Kayla to go into the girls locker room and change into workout clothes before heading outside to see Caroline getting out of a car that was being driven by her oldest cousin Damon.
"What the hell?" Kayla questioned as she stood behind Bonnie and Elena who jumped at her sudden appearance
"Oh, my God. That must be the mystery guy from the grill" Bonnie turned back around to see Caroline talking to the guy as Elena shook her head
"That's not a mystery guy. That's Damon Salvatore"
Hearing the last name, Bonnie turned to look at Kayla "Salvatore, as in-"
"My grown ass cousin, he's like 49" Kayla frowned disgusted
"Sorry I'm late, girls. I, uh, was busy. All right, let's start with the double pike herkey hurdler, what do you say?" Caroline came up with a smile
"Hell no. Y'all keep stretching. Caroline bring yo ass on!" Kayla walked towards the locker room with Caroline following
"Where have you been?!"
"I was with-"
"Bitch I know where you were now! I meant why were you not answering my calls? My texts? Hell my emails?!"
"Damon and I were having a really really good time together and I guess I forgot to charge my phone when we got back last night" Caroline shrugged as she played with her fingers
"First of all, that's disgusting. Seriously. I didn't need to know. Secondly, I was about to call your mom, you had me worried. You don't ever not answer my messages or calls" Kayla frowned
"I'm sorry for worrying you, I promise I was okay" Caroline wrapped her arms around her best friend
"So what? Are you trying to be my cousin in law too?" Kayla joked as she wrapped her arms around the blonde
"Definitely not, we decided we'd be better as friends"
Kayla blinked slowly "You were literally talking about how attractive this danger "sexy" guy was and now you two are just friends?"
"Yea"
"Who are you and what have you done with my Caroline?"
Laughing Caroline linked arms with Kayla as they walked back to the girls
"Seriously, the connection just weren't there"
"Connections? Was he that bad?" Kayla snickered
Caroline pushed Kayla jokingly before turning to the girls "Okay everyone, positions please"
Kayla came up beside Caroline and brought her hands together, starting the count "And 5, 6, 7, 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8"
Carolines eyes scanned over the group before calling out Elena
"Elena, sweetie, why don't you just observe today? Ok?"
Kayla ignored Elena and Caroline's interaction, keeping her eyes on the other girls "Keep going everyone. Bonnie will help you later Elena. Do it again from the top. And 5, 6, 7, 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8"
About 3 hours later Caroline and Kayla ended practice. Bonnie walked over to Kayla
"Hey, Elena left early but she wanted us to come to dinner at her place at like 8"
"She's ordering takeout?"
"Probably"
"Hmm yea I'll come"
As Kayla agreed Caroline skipped over "Come to what?"
Picking up her bag, the youngest of the three answered "Elena wants Bonnie to like Stefan, so she's having dinner at her place. You should come"
Caroline pouted "I wasn't invited"
Kayla shook her head "I'm inviting you, I want you there. Please come?"
Grinning Caroline nodded "Okay! I'll bring dessert"
The three girls said bye to each other and left, Caroline walking to the parking lot with Kayla while texting
"You riding with me Care?"
"No Damon's picking me up"
"Friends huh?"
"We are, he just offered to take me home after practice"
Damon pulled into the parking lot with Taylor Swift blasting on the radio, stopping near the sidewalk
"Kayla, hey! I didn't know you knew Caroline"
"I didn't know you knew Caroline either or any high schooler for that matter" Kayla shrugged
Sarcastically Damon shrugged too before asking Kayla if she needed a ride home
"No thanks, I drove"
"No worries kid. We'll get lunch sometime, bye now"
Kayla's eyes follow the car out the parking lot before shaking her head and going to her car
"He listens to Taylor Swift?"
