My phone dinged signaling a text from someone. I opened my phone as fast as I could when I saw it was from Sophie.

From Soph

We have a serious problem. I don't know what it could mean but do you remember how Sel got super dizzy two weeks ago? Well she just told me she's been seeing this dark figure and it's telling her she's not safe and that I can only protect her for so long...What do we do?

My blood ran cold as I read and reread the text. What the fuck? She was already in danger?

To Soph

Come over. Now. I might have something on this.

From Soph

I don't know if she's ready for all the information that's going to be dropped on her though.

To Soph

She'll be safer here. You and I know that. I wasn't planning on telling her about us until she felt comfortable.

From Soph

She likes you, Viola! I told her you would be able to describe the mate bond because I haven't met mine! She's going to think it's someone else 😭

To Soph

God dammit, Soph! Just get here. Now.

I ran my hands through my hair and stood up from my desk. What was she thinking? And Selene? Seeing a figure? I chewed on my lip as I looked for any information. Soph sent a text saying Selene would explain more when they got here. I couldn't help but feel a little excited. Selene was coming over, even though the circumstances were not ideal. I heard the door downstairs open and immediately made my way out of my office and down the stairs. "Hey! We're here!" I smiled at Selene as she looked around. "Finally!" Selene's head whipped in my direction and I saw happiness cross her features, then confusion, and finally sadness. "Oh...hey Viola." Sophie looked at me and then moved her head motioning towards Selene. Why was she sad to see me? "So first things first. You've been seeing a figure?" Selene nodded and crossed her arms. "Yeah." I moved to the side and motioned up the stairs. "Let's talk upstairs." She nodded and Soph smiled. "I've got some things to do. I'll meet you up there soon." Selene's eyes widened. "Soph!" She waved bye and left Selene with me. She deflated and followed me upstairs. "Oh wow..." she looked around and I couldn't help but smile. "What?" I shook my head. "We can talk in my office." She nodded and followed me in. She sat far from my desk, making my heart ache a little. "Can you explain exactly what you've been seeing?" She nodded and started playing with her hands as I sat down behind my desk. I leaned forward in my chair and clasped my hands together. "It's really tall, I can make out its face but just barely. It has really white teeth, long fingernails and golden eyes," my eyes widened. "Golden eyes?" She nodded and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. It sounds familiar. I remember a story I was told when I was younger but I thought it was just to scare us kids. "Yeah. It's been saying I won't be safe much longer and Soph can only protect me for so long... the first thing it said to me was soon." She sighed and put her hands over her face. "My new best friend tells me she's a werewolf, I then find out one of the regulars at the coffee shop I work at is also a werewolf, on top of that I start hallucinating...this is wonderful." She let out a sigh and her shoulders dropped. I wanted to go over to her but I knew she needed space. "I know it's a lot...but what I'm worried about is the fact that these might not be hallucinations, Selene." She looked at me, her eyes were shining with unshed tears making my heart crack in two. She looked up at the ceiling and took a deep breath. "Great." She shook her head. "I just wanted to start over...I never thought." She took a deep breath. "I'm living teenage me's dream right now, minus the creepy figure." I laughed at that making her give a small smile. "This is a lot." I nodded. "I'm sorry you had to be thrown into this." She sighed and shook her head. "It's not your fault." I smiled softly and shifted in my chair, leaning forward more and turned serious. "Your safety is my top priority, Selene. I won't let anything happen to you." She smiled. "Thank you, Viola." Her smile made my heart melt. I meant every single word I had said but she didn't know that. I smiled back at her and went to speak. "Knock knock!" Soph came in and smiled at Selene making me glare. "So, have you figured it out?" I shook my head. "Golden eyes rings a bell but I might need the pack doctor. He could help." Soph nodded and held out her hand for Selene to take, which she did. "I'll show her to her room." I glared at their hands as Soph left her.

"I do not feel that way about her. She likes you. Chill."

I rolled my eyes at Sophie's mind link. I can't help it. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. Would she be okay? Could I really protect her from something only she could see?
