NATIONAL ANTHEM

Jade stood by her front door, waiting to see Jacks car pull into her driveway. This was the first time they're talking in basically two months.

She felt nervous, but she wasn't sure why. It's not like she had any explaining to do, that's all Jack.

Suddenly the door bell rang, the girl rolling her eyes slightly. Of course he's coming to the door to take her to his car, that's him trying to somehow impress her.

" Hey", he said awkwardly once she opened the door.

" Hi", Jade said.

Jack led her to his car, opening the side door for her as she mumbled a small ' thank you'.

" Do you wanna get Starbucks or something?", he asked.

Jade mentally cursed herself. Jack knew she loved Starbucks. It was what she spent majority of her money on.

" Sure, yea. If you want to",

He nodded, pulling out her driveway. It was silent, but not their usual comfortable silence, an awkward tension filled one.

" Look, I know you're mad at me", he said.

" Yup",

Jack let out an annoyed sigh, " You have every reason to be, so I don't blame you",

Jade scoffed, " Yeah, I do. Where is this going, Jack?",

" I want to give you an explanation, for why I've been semi ignoring you",

" Semi? You don't even look at me during lunch or when you are at my house", she said annoyed.

" I know! And I'm sorry, I feel bad",

Jade groaned, " I don't want you to feel bad, Jack! I'm not asking for an apology. You said you wanted to talk, so just get to the point already",

It went quiet for a bit, the two arriving in the drive thru. Jack ordered what she usually got, just getting the same thing for himself to make it easier.

" Jade", he started as they parked in the parking lot, Jade sipping on her drink.

She looked over at him, being able to tell he was being serious, and not funny like he usually is.

" I'm sorry for ignoring you, and I don't even have an actual reason. After Trevor found out about Andrew he like, told me he was completely ok with me seeing you, and that scared me",

" You asked for my brothers approval?", she laughed.

Jack shook his head, " No, he just said it. I don't know why that scared me, but it did. So I thought it would be best if I just backed off for a bit",

" That's stupid", she muttered.

" I know", he let out a breathy laugh, " You're a really amazing girl, J. Like, I can't even describe it. And I'm just worried that maybe being with someone like me is gonna ruin that part of you",

Jade shrugged, " Okay, well if I'm deciding to be with someone like you, then I should be able to deal with the consequences. But I really don't think being with you is gonna ruin how amazing I am",

He laughed, Jade smiling a bit. Even though she was still annoyed at him, it kinda made sense what he was saying.

Jack is insanely popular at school, but popular with girls too. Jade doesn't get insecure easily, but she could tell that if she was with Jack, she'd have to have a lot of trust in him.

" Maybe, maybe not. Your choice if you wanna find out though", he shrugged, " But I want you to find out",

" You're so cheesy", she said while laughing, " I wanna find out, Jack. I do",
