So you want to publish your own work independently? It's certainly easy. It can be cheap (though by the end of this month you may decide that the cheap route is not the best). You don't have to jump through any hoops or answer to anyone but yourself. That's all pretty attractive.
But there are pitfalls. I haven't seen anyone put it so succinctly or amusingly as Michael Brent Collings. If you're tempted to try your hand at self publishing, start here, listen to what Collings has to say and consider if you're really ready. If you're still ready to self publish after you've listened, then the following weeks will give you more information and direction for what to do next.

Homework: have someone you trust read your novel. Ask them if they honestly believe it's ready to be published and if they would pay $0.99-2.99 for it.
