Chapter Twenty-Two: Who Am I?

***Embry's POV***

"Who am I?" I asked him bluntly. I didn't know any other way to start this conversation, it was one that I'd never planned on having.

"Your full name is Embry Irina Black." He smiled as he said my full name. "Your parents are Sirius Black and Diana Summers. I was good friends with both of them when we all went to Hogwarts back when we were your age. Your father and James always found their ways into trouble."

"Who's James?" I couldn't help but glance at the photo he'd been looking at. I knew one of the women in the photo was my mother but I didn't know which one.

"Harry's father and one of my closest friends up until his...death." Lupin frowned as he handed me the photo. "That was taken when you were just under a year old. That's James there with his wife Lily who was pregnant with Harry when this was taken. Then there's me, your father, you, and your mother." My eyes froze at the picture of my mother. She was beautiful with long wavy hair but I couldn't tell what color it was since the picture was in black and white. She looked so happy as she looked at Sirius holding me in his arms, smiles on both their faces.

"Where is she now?" I asked in a whisper. "If she's my mother then why did I grow up thinking I was a Malfoy?"

"About three months before He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named killed Harry's parents Diana got sick with a Muggle illness." His voice was sad as he told me the story. "There was no cure for it, there still isn't. She died after a month of it which left you with your father. He knew that something wasn't right so he asked me to be your god father if anything happened and I accepted. Sure enough Lily and James were killed and Sirius was arrested for their murders. When I went to step in as your guardian though the Minister declared that I wasn't a safe guardian for you and handed you over to Luscious and his wife since they had a son that was a little more than a year younger than you."

"I'm not thirteen?" I could feel my eyes widen. I understood how I could have gone not knowing about my real parents but how could I have my age wrong too?

"As of now you fourteen." He chuckled softly at my expression. "Your birthday is February fourteenth."

"Valentine's day," I couldn't help but laugh at my birthday. "So I'll be fifteen next month? Well that's interesting."

"What else would you like to know?" He leaned back in his chair, he seemed more relaxed now than he'd been before.

"My family," I brought my knees to my chest and wrapped my arms around my legs as if I were a little kid excited for a story.

"Let's start with your mother," he suggested. "She was in Hufflepuff and was the same year as all of us though we didn't really meet her until our third year. She was quieter than most of the people in her house, I was the one to actually meet her though. We met in the library and talked a lot about the classes, she was the nicest person I'd ever met. Then, half way through the year I ran into her in the courtyard while I was with the others and she hit it off with Lily right away and was always kind to...Peter. She wasn't overly fond of James or Sirius though. If I remember correctly she called the two of them 'troublesome annoying gits that needed a good smack or two'."

"It wasn't until the end of our fifth year that she gave Sirius a chance and from that point on they were inseparable." He smiled at the memories. "They got married two years after we left Hogwarts and then had you later on. That was the happiest day of their life, I remember the first time I saw the three of you together. You were all just perfect together. You had his hair but her eyes and paler skin. You were the perfect mix of them."
