EDITED

Great the last first day of school ever and, of course, not only am I at a different school but I am in a different bloody country. I was the year ahead in the UK so I've already finished all my exams I'm just not old enough to go to uni yet. Thanks to that lovely factor I had to follow my mother half way around the world to, and I quote, "start a new life away from the horrors of our old one". The only problem is you can't really escape the fact you don't have a leg anymore.

Anyway I've decided to be more optimistic while I'm here. Nobody knows who I am, nobody knows my past and nobody ever will as I don't intend to make friends or talking to people. So tada optimism. I'm sure my counciler would be proud.

"Tavi hurry up your going to be late!"

I better get up then before my brother has a melt down.

"Chill out! I'm up you don't need to get your knickers in a twist!"

I decide to stay in bed for a few more minutes. I don't need this. I don't need school anymore. I'm only going as my mum wants us to be "normal" what ever that means.

Just then Ezekiel stuck his head around my door and just stared at me. He has always been the hotter twin at least that is what people tell me. I'm older and he is everything else. The only thing is he can't hide his problem. The fact he has a long scare down his face and is missing an eye is a bit of an elephant in the room, but, of course it just makes him more attractive to girls.

"You know when you say your up it tends to imply you are actually out of bed and getting ready. You know that, right?"

"Zekie you know this is just a load of bull to make mum feel better, can't we just not show"

"Taves you have 3 seconds to get out of bed otherwise you will regret it"

"Fight me brother" I say opening my arms and puffing my chest like some kind of demon chimp.

"You had the option"

At that he rips my covers off and throws me over his shoulder, carrying me down the stairs all the while I am kicking and screaming.

We reach the kitchen and he dumps me into one of the bar stools pushing my breakfast and my meds in front of me. Normally I would escape back to the pit I call a bed but I can't. The wanker left my leg upstairs.

"Zekie give me my leg"

"Nope" he says popping the p with a smirk on his face.

"Ezekiel I said give me my leg" I do my best to look stern

"Octavia you may have your leg when you have been a good girl and eaten your breakfast and taken your meds" he says mocking my previous attempt to look tough.

"Fine.... arse" I mumble

"Love you too big sis!" He laughs as he places a kiss on my cheek. He is such an arse sometimes.

~

After I had done as I was told and eaten my breakfast and taken my meds Zeki so graciously (note the sarcasm) carried me upstairs so that I could get dressed.

I know some girls make a big effort when they go to school and everything but I can promise you I am not one of them.

First of all I put on my prosthetic. I was quite lucky to only lose my leg under my knee which means I still have my natural knee joint. I mean it's not lucky to lose a leg, but optimism! I told my councillor I was capable of it, when I want to be that is.
