My mind was reeling. All the air was sucked out of the room, by Sebastian no less. He took the deepest inhale known to man and I don't think he's let it back out. Three and a half million dollars. That's what Melissa has just said.

3.5 million dollars.

"I'm sorry, what?" I gaped as I stared at her. She looked kind of uncomfortable, if I'm being completely honest. Her cheeks were a little red and she kept fidgeting with her hands in her lap.

She cast a glance at Sebastian before turning back to me, you could see the plain worry in her face for her son. I stood from my seat and walked over to crouch in front of Sebastian. Holding his cheeks between my palms, I turned his head to look at me while I locked eyes with him.

"Babe, you need to breathe," I tell him and he slowly exhales. I help him breathe in and out, just like he did with me all those weeks ago when I told him about my past. I watched as his shoulders relaxed, how his eyes shifted between my own, and he breathed a thank you.

I gave him a small smile, pecking his lips before standing to walk back to my seat. He grabbed my wrist before I could make it far and suddenly I found myself seated on his lap.

"He left me three million dollars?" He whispered as he gazed at his mother. She nodded meekly, I could tell that she didn't quite know how to proceed. "Why would he do that?" Sebastian asked and then turned to me, asking the same question.

Melissa looked defeated, this conversation had clearly taken a lot out of her. But she wasn't the only one. "He wanted to make sure you were taken care of, should anything happen to us." It seemed like a simple enough answer, but we all knew it wasn't. He wanted to make sure Sebastian would be okay should their past catch up with them. Meaning should they both end up dead in a ditch somewhere.

The thought made my stomach churn, bile rising in my throat as memories flooded my mind of that night. The night where I could have possibly ended up dead somewhere.

Sebastian must've felt the shift in the air because he quickly turned to me and hugged me to him. In all honesty, I really just wanted to sleep. We'd had such a nice few weeks and this bomb of drama being dropped on our laps, literally out of the blue, was not sitting well with me. I knew that Sebastian would want to spend some time with his mother.

Why is it that whenever we finally get close, something manages to get in between? I know it's selfish to want him all to myself, I know that it's unfair of me to ask him to stay with me when he just got his mother back. Which is why I keep my mouth shut and push off of him.

He looks at me quizzically, his hands going to wrap around me again but I shake my head. "Where are you going?" He mumbles, his lips coming out into an adorable pout and his brows scrunching together.

"It's past midnight and I'm a little tired," I tell him while wrapping my arms around myself. "I'm going to head to bed, it was nice meeting you Mrs. Carlton."

"Wait," he calls after me and then he's wrapping me up in a hug. "I'll be in there in a minute, okay?"

"You don't have to stay tonight," I glance back towards Melissa who seems to be trying too hard not to look at us, "spend some more time with her. I can see you in the morning." I try to muster up the biggest smile I can, but even that seems to prove to be a struggle.

"No," he shakes his head, "I can see her in the morning. I've been waiting for her for three years, she can wait another night or two." He leans down and captures my lips in a searing kiss before turning me around and pushing me towards the hallway.
