The water of the pond is nice and warm so my bath is really relaxing. I check my watch again. It's 11 o'clock. Wow it took Brandon a while. Well he did have to dry his clothes. I heard him running to and fro earlier for like an hour so it makes sense.

After drying my clothes, I go to sit down by Brandon. It's a little after one. I feel tired but not exhausted. Hmm... After such a long day I thought I would be sleeping on my feet. Well my throat's not hurting yet so I guess I could sleep.

"Brandon, I'm going to sleep, okay?"

"Okay. I don't feel all that tired though."

"Me neither. But my throat's not hurting yet and I have nothing better to do."

"True."

So we decide to sleep. I climb a moss covered tree and settle down on a branch. Surprisingly, it's quite comfy. I mean it's not my bed but it'll do.

"The moss is really comfortable. You should find a branch" I tell Brandon, sleep adorning my voice. I close my eyes. Seconds later, I hear him climb to a branch above me. "Good night, Brandon."

"Good night Janelle."

I wake up from a dreamless sleep. I feel refreshed but I keep my eyes closed. I lie down for a bit, just thinking about everything. My family and my friends must be so worried. I sigh. Time to try Brandon's technique and push that to the back of my mind. I hear Brandon wake up above me so I open my eyes. It's still night. How is that possible? We went to sleep around one. I check my watch. Holy crap!! We only slept for three hours?! How can I feel so... rejuvenated? I'm a ten-hour sleeper! My mom is always complaining about how I sleep half the day away when I don't have school.

Huh. Vampires don't need a lot of sleep. That's better than not sleeping at all I guess.

"I think my watch is broken. What time is it?" Brandon asks me.

"Four fifteen."

"Are you serious? My watch says that too! We didn't sleep for the whole day, did we?"

"I don't think so. If we did our throats would be scorching. Mine is hurting but it's not that bad."

"Point taken. So vamps need little sleep..."

"Yeah. And now that I think about it, I guess we should. Vampires aren't known to sleep. In most books they don't sleep at all."

I see his face show a flash of astonishment. I tense but then it goes back to a calm expression. I thought he was finally going to freak out in some way. I should have known better. "Oh. Okay then.... I know it's night time but I can still see. You're going to tell me it's another vampire thing right?"

I laugh. "Well vampires are supposed to be people of the night so now we know what they mean. We got automatic night vision."

"Hmm."

*********

It's amazing that it has been a month since we were turned into vampires. We've gotten so accustomed to this lifestyle now.

We are walking around the forest and we come across our backpacks from the hike that seems a long time ago. They are mouth-watering. I think I'm actually drooling! Omg. We had them when we were human. How can humans smell that good? And how is the smell still there after a month? I look at Brandon. He has a constipated look on his face and unfortunately I'm pretty sure I look the same. Our throats are burning again. Hopefully we can ignore it.

We carry the backpacks back to a clearing by the pond, our favourite place. We sit down to read the books in each. We have been bored beyond belief. Thank God we found these! I rummage through my backpack and see my cellphone. I can finally call my parents! And my friends! They must be freaking out. Oh my gosh! I miss them so much. I turn on the phone and start dialling but Brandon takes it away from me.
