Chapter 45 - The Passage

Tiktok, tiktok, tiktok.

The sound of ticking from the old grandfather clock resonates loudly in the room. A total of thirty minutes had passed when we arrived in Archie's mansion. I was given a new set of dry clothes and was instructed to wait in Archie's study after I change. As an obedient guest, I did what I was told but after another full thirty minutes, my body refuses to keep still. I stand up from my seat and roam around the room. Now that I take an interest with my surroundings, from the grandfather clock to the set of ming dynasty cup inside an old cabinet, I noted that the room is full of antiques. It's not a surprise considering that Archie claims that everything on this island was originally from his late grandfather.

In the corner of the room I noticed a curtained wall. At first, I thought it's just a plain wall designed with a red curtain but when my hand touched a solid item underneath, curiosity get the best out of me. I was about to lift the curtain when a voice interrupted me.

"What are you doing?" Mason asked entering the room wearing a fresh set of clothes.

"Er...just roaming around."

"Careful there honey, you might discover his dirty secrets." Mason said smirking.

"Dirty secrets?" I asked innocently.

"Yes, you know...those type of stuff."

When I finally realized what he means, a red tint covered my face making Mason laugh.

"Shut up Mason. What are you doing here?" I asked changing the subject.

"Well, I just wanted to be with you." He said with a twinkle in his eyes.

Okay?

When he noticed the crease on my forehead, he laughs and said, " I wanted to show you something. Wanna come with me?"

"Hmm.. but Archie said-"

"Forget about what that moron said." He interrupted and grab my arm hoisting me out of the room. "Let's go!"

When I was finally out of the room, I did not protest anymore. Since I'm in a new environment, a magic island and all, why don't I explore it? I believe it'll be interesting.

Mason led me to a door leading outside. After passing several domes and statues I spotted a wonderful garden. Different set of flowers greeted me, but what catches my attention was the group of red roses in the corner.

"Wow," I said admiring the beauty of the flowers. "Very beautiful." I complimented.

"Truly." Mason said agreeing with me.

When I turn towards him, I saw him looking at me.

"What?"

"Very beautiful." He said. "You're like the ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. The peanut butter on my jelly. The —," That was the last sentence I heard before I completely tuned him out.

I mentally face palm myself. Mason's will always be Mason.

"And also, it's dangerous for you to wander around alone so if you needed company I'm always at your service."
