Chapter 68: Saying Goodbye

Hermione's POV

I just stood there in my bedroom, staring at the other copy of The Daily Prophet.

Another muggle family was murdered again.

I have to make a decision. I have to protect my parents.

There's only one thing to do.

"Hermione! Tea is ready, darling." I heard my mother's voice call.

Tears flooded my eyes. This might be the last time I'll be seeing them again.

After all this, they won't think I ever existed.

Being a witch in a muggle family is harder than I thought.

"Coming, mom!" I yelled back.

I took a deep breath then grabbed my wand.

I went downstairs then saw them chattering as they drink tea.

I'm glad they're facing the TV screen.

I raised my wand at the both of them.

"Obliviate."

All the memorable photographs of each other are long gone.

Or maybe I'm just no longer in the picture.

I sighed then look away.

I love you, mom and dad.

Then mom turned. "Who are you, dear?"

"I'm just dropping by," I said. "I left something."

"What's your name?"

"Hermione. I best be going." I said.

"That's a lovely name, dear. I've always wanted to name my future child that. Would you like to stay for tea?"

I wiped my eyes. "I'm good. Thank you for everything, Mr and Mrs. Granger."

Harry's POV

"Come on, Dudley! Hurry up!"

"I still don't understand why we have to leave."

"Because...it's not safe for us here anymore."

I peaked out the window, watching as the Dursleys pack the car.

This is what I always wanted, right?

I went downstairs then saw Aunt Petunia in the center of the room. "I've been in this house for 20 years. I didn't really expect to leave."

"They'll torture you," I replied. "You know that they won't stop at nothing."

"You think I don't know what they're capable of?" She asked then turned to me. "You didn't just lose a mother at Godric's Hollow, you know? I lost a sister." She said then left.

I went outside, seeing that they're ready to go.

"This isn't goodbye, boy. This is farewell."
Uncle Vernon said, making me nod.

"I don't understand," Dudley said. "Is he coming with us?"

"Who?"

"Harry."

"Absolutely not!"

"Why?"

"B-because h-he just want to! Do you, boy?" He asked me.

I quickly shook my head. "Absolutely not! Besides, I'm just a waste of space. Isn't that right, Vernon?"

"Come on, Dudley. We're off." Uncle Vernon said then opened the car door.

Dudley walked to me then raised his hand, waiting for me to shake it.

I shook his hand. "I don't think you're a waste of space." He told me.

He let go of me then walked away, giving me a small smile.

"See you, Big D." I said.

Ron's POV

I stood there, outside the house, watching the sky above.

"Ron! Tell your father that supper's nearly ready!" Mum said.

The war is coming. I know that.

I need to find a way, I need to do my best to protect my family.
