When a wolf is looking for their mate, there are key indicators that they have to look for. These include (from most used to least):
Scent
Touch
Eye contact
Speaking

Most books use scent, so I'll start with that sense first.

Scent:
When a wolf comes of age, and his or her mate is nearby, they can smell their mate. A lot of times, the scent is tailored specifically to that wolf, or the mate of a wolf can smell the wolf's 'true scent', which other wolves can't smell.

Touch (aka physical contact):
When a werewolf touches his or her mate, they feel electricity between them. The deeper the bond of the mates, the more electricity is generated between them. The electricity is supposed to be pleasurable and usually makes the recipient of the touch lean into it.

Eye Contact:
When a wolf makes eye contact with their mate, they normally find it hard to break. Sometimes, a wolf can recognize their mate by just looking into their eyes.

Speaking:
When the mate of a wolf speaks, it normally sounds irresistible to the wolf. Some males would say that their mate sounds like an angel. Females would probably say that her mate's voice sends triangles down her spine.

When a wolf finds their mate, they can do one of three things:
Reject the mate
Accept the mate
Start the mating process

The mating process will be discussed in the next part.

As soon as a wolf recognizes their mate, they normally notice a few things, such as:
Size
Facial features
Body type
Scent
The electricity when they touch
Voice

It can either be really hard or really easy for another wolf to tell that a wolf found his or her mate. Some signs that a wolf found their mate are:
Unusual distraction
Daydreaming
Smiling constantly
Worrying constantly
Lightened mood
Easily distracted
Constant sniffing

Most unmated wolves would find it hard to know that a wolf had found their mate, but mated wolves would find it quite easy, as they had gone through it themselves.
