[Old version. I changed a few things in the newer version of this series. For example; in the old version, the mother told the spirit to be her son's lover for three days, but in the newer version, she has to be her son's lover until the mother found them a bride.]

" father, do you know anything about spirits?"

caught off guard by his fourth son's sudden question, the father of immortal blinked as he observed his son's nonchalant expression. however, despite masking his emotions to the best of his ability, the father could still see what was hidden behind that calm facade of his son. the father smiled in amusement at the sight, whereas the son was looking at him impatiently. after a while, it was painfully obvious for the son that his father was currently teasing him with his silence. it took the fourth son's all of his willpower not to lash out, and yet, the father still didn't answer, instead, the father had gotten up from his seat and headed to the nearest bookshelf in the room, his digits tracing every cover of the books lining up before it stopped on a queer book with a dark cover.

gently, the father of immortals pulled the book out of the bookshelf. he wiped off the dust on it before he went back to sit on his office chair. the man presented the book to his son with a fake smile before he slowly-painfully slowly-flipped open the book. the fourth son took a peek, and found out that there were bold words of 'spirits race' written on it.

" so, what do you want to know about spirits?" the father asked, glancing up at his son.

despite doing his best not to show any weakness in front of this man he called father, the fourth son couldn't help but show a sign of obsessiveness as he answered, "everything."

as expected, the father couldn't help but chuckle at his son's response. "unfortunately, I can't lend you this book, but I can tell you two or three things about spirits. is that okay with you?"

the son went silent for a while, obviously displeased by his father's rejection before he nodded. after all, beggars can't be choosers.

" well, it says that spirits are kinda similar to fairies. there are many different types of spirits in every realm, but they are invisible to mortals' eyes. one of their greatest talents is invisibility. a more powerful and older spirit can travel through times, but they are a rarity in the spirits realm. they are also-... oh?" knitting his eyebrows, the father of immortals went silent for a while before he looked up to his son with a smile. " oh well, it's too long and I don't feel like reading it. how about you go home? your toy must have been waiting for you."

it must have been because the fourth son was quite mad that his father got his hope up like that before crashing it down, because it was unlike him to not notice how his father had addressed his woman as his toy instead of his future wife like he always does, and how there was a pause after the word waiting-indicating that the father obviously knew that once his fourth son went back home, the spirit would be nowhere to be found-nonetheless, the fourth son nodded obediently and took his leave.

seeing that his son was no longer there, the father turned to the book, reading the part that had piqued his interest out loud. "-they are also genderless, because of that, they can take the appearance of anyone that they want, be it male or female."

repeating the word male again, the father went silent before he eventually chuckled as he was reminded of his daughters that so often came to him to tell him how easily broken their men are. perhaps, if it was the spirit, it might satisfy his daughters before he can find them their suitable grooms. with that thought in mind, the father headed to his wife's place.
