I wait until the light in Valerio and Lexie's room goes out. I've been standing at the tree line in the backyard for hours; just waiting for them to go to sleep. Waiting for them to finish whatever they're doing is the most annoying part of this whole plan. I fought Spencer on this part. Personally, I think waiting for them to go to sleep to be a waste of time.

I know this house like the back of my hand. If Spencer had let me have my way, I could have gone in undetected, gotten into the safe in Valerio's office, grabbed the spells we need, and be back out within minutes. Why Spencer feels like this cloak and dagger way is better, I'll never know.

I continue to wait in the tree line, letting more time be wasted like Spencer told me. When another half hour has passed, I decide the house is settled enough to go inside. Running across the yard, I duck inside the pool area, hiding behind the pool house.

As I catch my breath, annoyance seeps through me. "This is so stupid," I whisper to myself.

Looking around the pool house, I peer into the back wall of glass. I shake my head when I don't see anyone, and then curl my fingers. Spencer's plan is that I walk through the house, but that's an unnecessary risk when I can manifest right outside Valerio's office.

I hold my breath when I land outside the door, quickly looking up and down the empty hallway. I turn the handle, and slightly laugh that Valerio still doesn't lock the door. I slip inside, shut the door quietly, and then breathe a sigh of relief. I rush to the safe in the corner of the room, wave my hand in front of it, and smile when the door opens.

Quickly finding what I need, I try to put everything back the way it had been. I don't know how often Valerio gets in here, but I think as long as it's neat and orderly he won't notice. I shut the safe door, stuffing the papers in my back pocket as I stand up straight. I turn to leave, but then spot a black binder on one of the shelves across the room.

I remember once, when I was a kid, Mom and Aunt Esmerelda discussing getting rid of the binder. They didn't know I could hear them, and all I can remember them saying is that the spells in it aren't useful anymore since there's peace.

If The Warlock has anything to say about it, there will be no peace.

I grab the binder off the shelf, and then go over to Valerio's calendar on his desk. I've already hardcore gone off script, so why not do a little digging on what he's up to? When I see his familiar handwriting, I quickly find the date of when everything happened. A simple black x is drawn on the box, making me smile.

Looking down this past week's line, I read that two days ago, Lexie and Aquila met with Dr. McCoy, and tomorrow...

My eyes nearly pop out of their sockets as I read Valerio's writing. Tomorrow, Aquila and Lexie are meeting with the President? How the fuck did Valerio manage to wiggle his way into American politics so easily? Within the week, he's found Dr. McCoy, and gotten a foot in to the President? Lexie meeting with him is just the beginning. Valerio takes his mate for granted. He doesn't see how valuable she truly is. Her ability to control a situation, even before she became a Guild Leader, was one of the reasons The Warlock and I decided she needed to be taken when the family first learned of us.
