The rain suddenly got louder, muffling all sounds. Qin Yan's back was facing Fu Changling, and he remained frozen in place.

He listened to the rain pattering. Only after a while did he appear to have come back to his senses and whisper, "Go to sleep first."

After that, he didn't give Fu Changling another chance to respond. He walked out the door and closed it.

Then he stood in front of Fu Changling's door, tightened his grip on his sword, and gazed out at the pouring rain.

His heart was in turmoil.

He had no idea where this turmoil started or how it would end.

He had never been one to force himself when it came to cultivation. Since he was a child, he had had a pure heart and had been free of desire. Everyone suggested that he and Xie Yuqing were good candidates for cultivating the Emotionless Path, so he did.

He never wanted to let go of anything deliberately, nor did he think of caring about anything deliberately; he simply accepted things as they happened.

When he was young, he even thought that if one day he met someone he loved, it wouldn't hurt if he didn't cultivate the Emotionless Path, but he had never met anyone he loved.

Later, when he met someone and couldn't be with him, love became torment, and the Emotionless Path became his salvation, the only way he could suppress all his emotions and continue on his own.

He couldn't possibly love this person once more.

As he watched the downpour in silence, he recalled the fierce sword fights of his previous life.

To like this thing was too shameful and lowly. If he could, he wouldn't want to give it another go.

With this in mind, he gently lowered his gaze and slowly let go of his grip on his sword. Then he flipped his hand over, and an umbrella was in his grasp. Holding up the umbrella, he stepped out into the wind and rain.

Fu Changling was sitting in the room as he heard the sound of footsteps outside the door fading away. Only after there was no more sound did he lie back down, pulling up the quilt, facing the pitch-black bedhead, and listening to the sound of the night rain outside.

"Don't be sad," a gentle female voice rang out, and Fu Changling was somewhat surprised to hear it. "Senior!" exclaimed Fu Changling, hastily sitting up. "Senior, you're still around!"

"I'm inside the sword," the female voice replied softly. "If you bring Tan Xin out, of course I'll be here."

Upon hearing this, Fu Changling leaned back onto the bed. "You hadn't made a sound. I'd almost forgotten you were even there."

"Talking consumes spiritual power," said the female voice softly. "You're upset, so I've come especially to talk to you."

Fu Changling smiled. "It's not really that big of a deal."

With that, Fu Changling didn't want this senior to pursue the matter between himself and Qin Yan any further, so he said, "Senior has always been attached to the Tan Xin Sword. Now that I've brought back the Tan Xin Sword, if Senior has any old friends that she wishes to find, I'll go and speak to them on her behalf."

Fu Changling had tried to ask about this senior's origin before, but each time he brought it up, she merely sidestepped the question. In the past, when he stayed at the Cliff of Ten Thousand Bones, there was no point in asking. Now that he has come out, Fu Changling would like to help this senior in some way. After all, he counted this person as a half-master of his, and he was indebted to her.
