As Su Wenji was used to predicting things in advance, Qin Yan nodded. Nothing about it was strange.

Fu Changling followed him, twirling the fan in his hand while gazing at the surrounding mountain flowers, as if he had nothing on his mind.

The senior's voice sounded once again, sighing, "If you don't think so in your heart, then why did you say so?"

The expression on Fu Changling's face remained unchanged. He smiled, shifting his gaze to the back figure of the person walking ahead of him. After a moment of staring, he said helplessly, "I still can't bear to see after all."

"Can't bear to see what?"

"If it's unbearable enough for one person, then why involve another?"

"He's still young," Fu Changling whispered in his divine consciousness as his smile slowly faded, and he gazed at Qin Yan, "so I should take better care of him."

Therefore, he would handle all of the emotions and alleviate all of the awkwardness. Qin Yan was now only eighteen. How could he bear the thought that this person was distressed due to these feelings of his?

What's more, what Qin Yan said wasn't unreasonable.

The Qin Yan of his previous life was dead.

It's just that he himself, deep down inside, couldn't bring himself to admit this.

They both followed the attendants as they made their way to Su Wenji's courtyard. From afar, they could see white walls and black tiles, with white plums peeking out from the walls, swaying gently in the wind. The black and white colors were as if painted in ink, closely resembling the artistic conception within the Su Clan's domain.

Through the open gate, across the outer courtyard, there was a small lake. The lake's surface was covered with lotus-leaf-shaped stone piles for people to land on. Next to the stone piles were lotus leaves of varying heights, with lotus flowers blooming vaguely amid them.

A hut stood in the middle of the lake at the end of the stone piles, outside of which was a wooden corridor. Su Wenji was sitting in the long corridor with a wooden table in front of him, preparing tea with his head down.

The attendants escorted the two to the lake, then stood on either side without entering any further. Qin Yan led Fu Changling inside, stepping on the stone piles. Fu Changling trailed along as he surveyed the surroundings and said with a smile, "Young Lord Su has quite good taste."

"He's used to loving these useless things," Qin Yan murmured in a hushed tone, and Fu Changling's next compliment was gagged in his mouth.

One after the other, the two made their way up the corridor. Qin Yan knelt down and sat right in front of Su Wenji, while Fu Changling sat slightly further behind Qin Yan. The three said nothing, only listening to the sound of trickling water as Su Wenji poured the tea.

Su Wenji pushed the tea toward Qin Yan once he had finished pouring it. A servant brought a cup of tea to Fu Changling in the back, who gave thanks and accepted it. Qin Yan lowered his gaze to his teacup and indifferently said, "You must have guessed that I came to see you."

"Yun Yu's star is a bit far from Xie Daoyou," said Su Wenji with a smile. "Has he gone missing?"

"Mm." Qin Yan picked up the teacup and took a sip. Su Wenji listened to the gulping sound and asked gently, "What can I help you with?"

Qin Yan pulled the puppet out of his sleeve and handed it to Su Wenji. "Take a look."

Su Wenji fumblingly picked up the small puppet, stroking it for a while, and drawled, "It's a cloth puppet of the Yue Clan."
