"hmm?" i asked.

i was out to lunch with shayla and johnson. they let me know that i could bring a date, but that would going in the opposite direction from where i was headed.

"what's on your mind?" johnson asked.

"nothing, just thinking" i shook my head.

"didn't bring a date?" shayla asked.

"no, not interested in anyone" i shrugged.

"gilinsky not interested?" johnson raised his eyebrows with a chuckle.

"how's hannah? if you've seen her" i randomly asked,  ignoring his comment.

it was driving me crazy. i needed to know what she's been like since last saturday.

"happy, she has weirdly been happy. and she actually wants to do stuff" shayla told me.

"that's great" i smiled with a nod.

i'm genuinely happy for hannah. she couldn't stay in that slump forever.

"shay, tell him what she told us" johnson rubbed her back.

"she asked if you'd like to have dinner?" she exclaimed.

"oh i know, she wants to try and be friends so we can all go out together like in the old days" i sat back and put my napkin on my plate.

"no, she didn't ask for anyone else" johnson said.

"what?" i sat up, shocked by what they were saying

"she asked if you'd wanted to have dinner with her" johnson told me.

"not a date of course" shayla added, mocking hannah.

"well yeah—yes, i'd love to" i smiled.

"i've never seen you so excited" johnson laughed.

"okay, i'll have her text you" shayla nodded with a smile.

"told you it was gonna work out" johnson whispered and left with shay.

"yeah, it's is" i said to myself and headed home.

hannah+

"hannah banana" i heard from downstairs.

"what" i hollered from upstairs, too lazy to get up.

"lets go out and do something" shayla sat on my bed.

"like what?" i closed my macbook and sat up.

"i don't know. whatever" she shrugged.

"fine" i agreed and put my shoes on.

we decided to just walk around downtown la. see if anything interest was happening and just get some fresh hair.

"you're wearing jeans for the first time in two months" she chuckled.

"thanks for keeping track" i said sarcastically.

"me and johnson had lunch with jack today" she randomly brought up.

"did you?" i turned to her.

"yeah, asked if you'd have dinner with him. as friends of course" she added.

"as friends?" i made sure.

"as friends" she reassured me.

"okay, have him text me" i nodded.

"actually, i told him you'd text him" she told me.

"oh okay, i'll text him when i get home" i bit my lip.

jack wants to have dinner with me? wouldn't friends have lunch?

i'm not complaining. i'm glad that jack is finally making an effort to be friends. it will be hard, but at least we can still be in each other's lives.

i got home to ali eating chips on the couch and watching netflix. i didn't really care. she's my bestfriend and practically lives here anyway.

"hey" i sat on the couch, taking my shoes off.

"so?" she waited.

"what?" i nodded my eyebrows in confusion, having no clue what she could be waiting for.

"you and jack going to dinner?" she waited.

"gee word travels fast" i chuckled.

"are you too?" she raised her eyebrow.

"no, i'm trying to push him to be friends. baby steps" i explained.

"meaning you'll eventually be together again? she asked.

"i don't know" i sighed. "part of me wants to be with him, i'm just not ready" i admitted.

"do you know what he told me saturday night?" i asked her.

"no. what?" she turned to me.

"he told me that he didn't love me enough and everything was about him. he didn't realize it until now. he wants to be with me now" i told her.

"this boy is inlove with you. i don't think he can do baby steps" she told me.

"well if he wants me in his life that's his only option at the moment" i said.

i feel bad for jack but i shouldn't. i love that he's noticing and caring, but he should've done that when we were together.

the thing is, i miss him when i mm not with him. i wish i could just jump into dating him again, but i won't do that to myself.
