A/N: Fred always thought Neville's older sister who was in Hufflepuff was just like them, sweet and innocent. But after rejection, she shows him who she truly is

Y/n POV:
"Look, you're a really sweet girl, and I like you, but I don't think we'll work out, we're just totally different."

That confession felt like I was stabbed with a hundred needles. Fred and I had been friends since first year when I was sorted into Hufflepuff and he was sorted into Gryffindor. I really didn't like most of things girls my age liked, but continued to do it, so I could please others.

When Neville and I returned after my 5th year, I instantly changed everything, I changed for myself and not others. I cut my hair to my shoulders, gave myself bangs, dyed my hair black with grey highlights.

Neville and Gran were both supportive, happy that I was truly expressing myself. I only dressed like this during the summer, because if I went to Hogwarts like this, people would judge me for not being the sweet flower child from Hufflepuff.

"Neville who was that standing next to you at the platform?" Harry asked him as they started to walked towards the carriages.

"That was my sister." Neville answered.

"Really!" Ron exclaimed. "Since when has Y/n dressed like that?"

"She dresses like that during the summer, she always wanted to please people but she really doesn't care what people think. I'm happy that she can be herself." Neville smiled.

You know the saying, if she changes after you, you were the problem.

McGonagall was planning something, on the first day of classes in Transfiguration with Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs, she sat me next to Fred, my lucky day.

"Hi." Fred sat down next to me.

"Hi." I looked at the front of the class.

"How was your summer?" He asked.

"Fine." I kept my answers short hoping he would catch on, which didn't happen.

"When did you get your nose pierced?" He continued with the questions looking at my septum piercing.

"I've had it pierced for two years, just took it out when I went to school." I answered.

"I like it." He complimented.

"Really?" I raised an eyebrow. "Is more mature for you, more your style."

He let out a sigh, he knew he messed up when he said I was too innocent last year.

"Look Y/n, what I said last year, I didn't mean it." He ran a hand through his hair.

"If your trying to get me to forgive you and go out with you, not going to work. You have to try harder than that." I grabbed my bag and walked out of class.

"Would you look at that." Someone teased. I turned around and saw Jade Arroway. I had met them when I got my nose pierced the summer before 4th year when they were getting their eyebrow pierced. "You look great."

"Thanks, I feel great." I joined their side so we could walk to class together.

"Who would have thought getting rejected by Weasley would make you come out of your shell." Jade laughed.

"Shut up." I smacked their arm.

"You rejected Y/n!" George exclaimed as he walked into the common room where his brother and a few their friends were.

"What?" Fred raised an eyebrow.

"You rejected Y/n, I thought you liked her." George repeated.

"Makes sense by her new style." Ginny joined her two brothers.

"What does that mean?" Fred look at his sister.

"When a girl gets rejected or has gone through a breakup, if she she changes, you were the problem. In your case, you called her sweet and innocent and saying the two of you wouldn't be good together so she changed and showed you she really isn't that innocent." Ginny explained.

"How do you know all that?" Fred asked.

"I'm a girl, all girls know. Also her best friend and Luna are friends and we all had a girls night a few days ago." Ginny shrugged.

The talk of the whole school was the Yule Ball. Dressing up and getting a date and dancing all my night, not my type of scene. I'll probably just stay in my dorm or in the astronomy tower.

"Hey." Fred sat down next to me during class.

"Hi." I replied getting my book out of my bag.

"Did you hear about the Yule Ball?" He asked.

"I thing everyone has." I retorted.

"Right." He laughed nervously. "Do you have a dress?"

"No." I answered.

"Do you have a date?" He asked.

"No." I replied.

"Would you maybe, like to go with me." He asked.

"Is this another way of trying to make up about last year?" I asked.

"Yeah." He let out a sigh. "I was an idiot and didn't know what I was saying and you made me understand that I can't judge a book by its cover. It was just I liked you a lot and I wasn't really a good student, always skipping class and I thought you deserved someone better."

"If I wanted someone better, I would have chose them, right?" He nodded. "So why do thing I told you I liked you. It wasn't out of pity or a dare, I told you I liked you because we've been friends since first year and despite not caring about school, you care about people."

"I'm sorry." He apologized.

"I know." I said. "But isn't going to make up for what you did, I'm still hurt about what you said."

"Alright." He replied.

I didn't know what was going through my head when Jade took me dress shopping or when they were doing my hair and makeup, and now here I am.

Standing behind a pillar by the staircase in front of the great hall trying to not have a panic attack.

"Why did you make me do this?" I whispered yelled to Jade who stood opposite of me. "I just wanted to stay in my dorm and read about the constellations."

"Why would you want to do that when the guy you like is waiting down there for you." Jade said.

"He's waiting for me?" I raised an eyebrow.

"He didn't ask anyone after you, he wants to go with you." Jade replied.

"Is that why you got me a dress?" I asked.

"Maybe?" Jade smirked.

"I would smack you right now if my hands weren't shaking." I looked down my hands.

"Come on then, he's waiting." They linked arms with me and we made our way towards the stairs. I looked over the crowed of students hoping to find his stupid hair and there he was. He did look handsome in his dress robes. I saw George nudge him to turn his attention towards us, and gave a small smile. I took a deep breath and descended the stairs.

"You look beautiful." Fred complimented when he came up to me.

"Thank you, you look handsome." I rubbed my hands down my dress.

"I know I've been a total knobhead recently and this won't forgive anything, but would you like me to escort you?" He offered his arm.

"Yeah, I would like that." I smiled and grabbed his hand.
