Our babygirl (Marina)

Chapter 1

"Please don't chew that" The brunette said to the little boy placed on his play mat that had now decided the TV remote looked tasty. The firefighter chuckled hearing her wife through the phone "give me that bambino" Carina said taking the romote from the baby's mouth. Andrea was teething so it wasn't exactly weird for him to put things on his mouth 

Andrea had just turned 6 months old and he is the spitting image of the Italian. Dark brown hair, just like his eyes, infectious smile with a freckle right next to his mouth. Carina had been the one in charge of carrying him for 9 months, it was only fair that he looked like her even though the sperm donor had some of Maya's features. The blonde couldn't be happier, there was nothing she loved more than to have a little version of Carina in the house 

Where did the time go? She still remembers the first time she held him in her arms and she swore to protect him from everything. Or when they brought him home for the first time. The first night neither of the two women slept much, Andrea was determined to keep them up. But all the fatigue did not matter when she held him in her arms and the little one wrapped his fingers on his mother's little finger.

It was not an easy road, Carina had two miscarriages before getting pregnant with Andrea and although she knew that could happen, it didn't make it any easier. It was their last attempt before taking a little break. For both of them it was being a very strong emotional drain and they did not know if they could bear another loss not after the last one where they came to know the sex of the baby and had begun to think of names.

They were both going through a difficult time until it happened. The brunette for some reason that day had decided to go for a pregnancy test. Everything was the same, but something told her that she had to take that test. So that's what she did, she took the pregnancy test, more than one in fact, and there it was "Pregnant" it could be read.

At that moment the blonde entered the apartment and was surprised to find everything in such silence. She walked slowly into the bedroom and saw the bathroom door open, revealing her wife standing in front of the mirror with one hand on her belly and a pregnancy test in the other hand. The brunette looked at her with tears in her eyes and Maya understood, they were going to have a baby

"I'm heading off to work now" the Italian announced snapping Maya out of her thoughts "I'll maybe talk to you later?" she asked and Maya nodded smiling as she heard her baby's babbles through the phone 

"Yeah, of course" she ended up saying "Andrea?" she said and waited a few minutes for her wife to put her on speaker "be good for mamma bud" she said and the little boy let out a happy squeal when he heard his mommy's voice "I'll see you later" she said and her boy babbled trying to answer, he was definitely a talker. 

"See you later bella" the brunette said before ending the call

CROSS TOWN MAJOR VEHICLE FIRE 

Maya heard and quickly run towards the engine with her team to set off to the place. It was pretty hard to get there because of the traffic but when they did they totally understood why. What the hell happened here? Maya thought. An overturned truck was blocking the entire road and there were at least 15 to 20 cars piled-up. People was starting to panick seeing the fire on some of the cars

"Station 19 to central. Mass piled-up we need police officers to control the traffic and more aid cars" the blond said at her radio "Montgomery, Herrera, Hughes, look for any gas leaks and sand them" she said seeing her team nod "Gibson go check on the truck's driver. The rest of you identify the most injured victims, take care of the others next" 

As she searched for the most injured victims, trying to calm the rest of the injured by assuring them that someone from her team would come to attend them soon, she heard small cries. The sound was almost unnoticeable but she is sure she heard it and she is also sure they come from a child. The firefighter quickly begins searching through the pile of cars until she thinks she found where the sounds were coming from.

In the car, a four-year-old girl called for her parents. She doesn't know exactly what happened, she only remembers coming back from a little trip after her last day of preschool before holidays, when she heard a very loud noise and felt a blow to her head.

"Mommy? 'ake up" said the little girl from the back seat of the car looking at her parents but neither of them seemed to be able to hear her "Daddy pwease I scared "the girl begged feeling her head start to hurt as tears started to run down her cheeks

Suddenly the car door opened revealing a blonde woman in uniform who began to inspect the car with her eyes while taking the pulse of the two people in the front of the car "Shit" she whispered when she felt nothing and saw the little girl still in her car seat shaking like a leaf "Hello there" the blonde woman said seeing the state of the little girl "I'm Maya and I'm going to get you out of here okay?"
