CHAPTER NINE

THE CAR ENGINE REVVED AS MAX DROVE DOWN THE ROAD, Anastasia, Mike and Dustin were all crammed into the back of the car with Lucas being in the front as Max drove, apparently she had drove before so she was the best fit for it. Steve had just started to come around, and looked around at Mike muttering, "Nancy?"

He brought his hand up to his eyes, but Anastasia stopped him. "No, don't touch it."

Steve looked over at the two of them as Dustin smiled. "Hey, buddy...It's okay, you put up a good fight. He kicked your ass, but you put up a good fight. You're okay."

Lucas spoke in the background as Steve groaned. "Okay, you're gonna keep straight for half a mile, then make a left on Mount Sinai."

His eyes widened as he looked at who was driving. "What's going on?" Max looked back at him as he gasped. "Oh, my God!"

"Just relax, she's driven before." Dustin assured him.

Mike rolled his eyes. "Yeah, in a parking lot."

Lucas turned back, offended. "That counts."

Steve said, "Oh, my God." again.

Dustin reassured him even more, "They were gonna leave you behind. I promised that you'd be cool, okay?"

Max sped up the speed of the car, as Steve said in a panic. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What's going on? Oh, my God! No! Whoa! Stop the car. Slow down."

Mike whipped around to Dustin and Anastasia. "I told you he'd freak out!"

"Stop the car!" Steve yelled again, feeling dizzy.

Max shouted from the front seat. "Everybody shut up! I'm trying to focus!"

"Oh, wait, that's Mount Sinai. Make a left!" Lucas yelled out instructions to her, "Make a left!" The car screeched as they turned the corner, Steve held onto Anastasia's leg as they turned, screaming in her ear as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

The car eventually slowed down, just as the edge of the hole that Hopper had built as Max said. "I told you. Zoomer."

Everyone got out of the car as Steve groaned, he attempted to stop them but they were too busy putting on their gloves and masks. "Hey, where do you think you're going? What are you, deaf? Helloooo? We are not going down there right now. I made myself clear. Hey, there's no chance we're going to that hole, all right? This ends right now!"

Dustin stopped Steve, "Steve! You're upset, I get it. But the bottom line is, a party member requires assistance and it is our duty to provide that assistance. Now, I know you promised Nance that you would keep us safe, so keep us safe." He said, handing him over his bag with the bat in.
