Quick A/N and edit: Do you all prefer long chapters like this or bite sized ones?

Writing in the moonlight, Sarah and Tom worked on their letters to Viper. They wanted to make sure they were formal and that Viper would listen to their requests.

Tom's POV:
He sat at his desk, thinking of a starting point. Maybe I should highlight her flying? Or her characteristics... He touched his pen to the paper, writing a beginning. (I'm not sure how these letters are addressed, sorry!)

To Commander Viper,

In this letter, I would like to make a request. I will be blunt - even though it has only been a short amount of time, I want Sarah, callsign "Riser" Woods, to be my RIO.

He paused. Is this okay? He thought about it and nodded. He has influence, he doesn't have to be too formal about this. After all, he hasn't gotten in trouble here... unlike Pete and Nick. He looked across the campus to where Sarah's building is. The letters on his paper glimmered in the moonlight. He continued to write.

In order to back up my request, I would like to highlight Sarah's ability to fly. As you saw yesterday, she pulled off a multiple layered corkscrew and a loop, while figuring out Jester's flight pattern. I believe that if we are a team, we would be unstoppable.

He did not want to mention Jacob because he never really talked to him, but he did admit that Jacob was bright in his own way. However, Tom's feelings had other plans, and he wanted to be with Sarah every minute of the day. What if it distracts her flying? But I did try to encourage her before she flew, and it might have helped? His thoughts raced. He wanted to add more to the letter because Viper liked a confident person.

I am a very calculated pilot, and never got in trouble during my time here thus far. My qualifications are more than enough, and Riser's are the same, maybe even better.

He smiled to himself. Now to finish it off.

Thank you for your time,
Iceman

He put the letter in an envelope and addressed it to Commander Viper. He slid it into his drawer and laid back down in bed. Needless to say, even though the letter did calm him down, he still did not get very much sleep.

Sarah's POV:
She sat down and stared at Tom's building. She never wanted to write this letter, but her hands seemed to have a mind of their own. Yes, she did want to talk to Tom more, but spending almost every minute of their day together? No way! Alas, she sat down and began writing.

To whom it may concern,

She wondered if this was a good start to the letter. She did know that Viper was the one to assign positions, but maybe it had to go through others first. The moon peeked down onto her. She took that as a sign to keep going.

Allow me to me blunt - I would like to make a request to Admiral Viper. We have only been here for a short amount of time as Top Gun students, but I would like to have Tom "Iceman" Kazansky as my RIO.

She looked at the paper for a few seconds. It looked alright to her. The way she wrote "Kazansky" looked so neat, and she wished she could write it like that forever. She waved that thought away, continuing.

His flying is the best out of all the students, and if we were assigned together, we would make an unstoppable team. I am not asking for a permanent reassignment, but merely a suggestion for one dogfight.

She assumed that Viper would not do a permanent reassignment because they were already briefed on that on their first day here. Just one dogfight... she thought about the line and then crossed it out.
