Maverick woke up to the sound of his alarm going off. He got up reluctantly and went to have a shower. As he walked passed his dads room he saw a pack of cigarettes on the desk
With a sigh he walked in and put them away just incase Leo got a hold of them.
"Dad are you taking Leo to school he's going to be late." Maverick said picking up the courage to speak to his father
"He can stay home today because I can't be asked to take him" his dad murmured
Maverick kissed his teeth and opened the blinds
"Then whose going to take him to school" he said a little bit louder
Mavericks dad stood up and got out of bed and grabbed the boy by the arm "what I say about that fucking attitude if you care so fucking much you take him to school then. I've been up all night" he groans
"Yeah doing nothing" Maverick said under his breath
The boy immediately regretted his comment as his dad gripped onto his arm tightly pulling Maverick over to him "don't try me boy because I don't care if you have school I will fuck you up"
Maverick saw the anger building up in his fathers eyes and he tried to hold his strong demeanour yet it was slowly fading turning into fear
He began to loose the feeling in his arm "dad let go you're hurting me" he whispered
"Loose the attitude understood?" His dad said ignoring his comment
"Yes sir." Maverick responded anything for him to let go of his hand
He dad roughly pushed his hand away and opened his drawing lighting up some weed "get out of here"
Maverick quickly left and went towards Leo's room
He bathed him and changed him into a fresh set of clothes.
"Let's go get breakfast and I'll take you to school Leo" Maverick said
"Okay" he said as he ran down the stairs and into the kitchen
Maverick made Leo a sandwich for packed lunch and Leo tried making himself a bowl of cereal and accidentally spilt the milk on the floor
"I'm Sorry Maverick" Leo told the blonde boy looking as if he was going to cry
Maverick took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment and opened them once more. He looked at the clock and saw that school gates were about to close in 10 minutes
"Shit, look I'll clean it up and you can finish your cereal" Maverick replied quickly going to grab tissue for the mess on the floor

After taking Leo to school he ended up being 25 minutes late to school
"Fuck,fuck,fuck" he repeated to himself as he rushed into the classroom
Everyone had faced Maverick as he entered the room
"Mr Alvarez you are 25 minutes late. Reason?"
Mr Clarke asked looking to him
Maverick didn't say a word
He didn't really want the whole class to know he was taking his brother to school because his father was too high to get out of his bed
"Sorry Mav but I'm gonna have to send you to the principles offices today. This has happened on several other occasions and I can't cover for you anymore"
Suddenly the door opened again and the principle walked in with what looked like a new student
Maverick looked at Mr Clarke with a look of pleading and he gave in
