Loss of love (hiccup x reader)

'Gift'

The birds were singing, sun was shining and the dragons were roaring?
Y/n jumped out of bed to go see what was happening and sure enough it was like a war out there, dragons were all fighting as their owners tried to get them to stop, Strike and Toothless however were trying to help Hiccup and the chief get them to stop.
"Ugh it's too early" Y/n complained to herself as she ran down the stairs, she would understand them so she could help.
She ran out the front and down to were Stoick, Hiccup and their dragons stood
"Mind asking them what's up?" Hiccup whisper shouted
"Okay but when everyone starts asking questions you can answer" Y/n shrugged and went over to Strike who was trying to stop a dragon from burning down a house, some of the dragons were wild while others were already trained, it was like the trained ones were protecting the village while the wild ones were trying to burn it down, she rolled her eyes a thinking 'how did hiccup not realise that' and ended up at strike who nearly got hit by the nightmare
"Stop!" Y/n yelled
"What is she doing!"
"That lass is gonna get killed!"
"Does she think she's special?!"
She heard villagers murmur but it worked for a split second and the dragons (there was about 20 of them 10 on each side) stopped but then the monsterous nightmare turned to Y/n and went to fire at her, the girl stood her ground and shouted up to the dragon
"What is your problem!"
The nightmare was taken aback for a second before growling out a reply
'We are trying to save these dragons from you but they won't come!'
Y/n laughed as did Strike from beside her
'I told you we don't want to be saved' he growled
"Yeah they are happy here" Y/n smiled and the monsterous nightmare calmed down
'You can understand me?'
"Yes I can" Y/n smiled, reaching her palm out and touching the dragons head, he then roared at all his herd to stop and they done so, the gasps from all the villagers reminded Y/n they were there but she payed no attention to that
"We won't hurt you, if you need a place to live stay here"
'That's okay we have a place' the dragon said and he roared once more and took off into the skies with the rest of his pack.
Y/n walked back over to Hiccup and the chief and it was safe to say half the villagers mouths were hanging open, including that of her friends and the chief so she stood up on the back of Strike for some extra hight and began to explain
"Okay so I think it's about time everyone knew since well you have all just saw.
I can understand dragons, I am not going to dive into the story but please know I'm not a freak or a witch it is in my family's history" she sighed and jumped down from strike, stroking him on the head, she closed her eyes and awaited commotion or someone to try kill her but it never came, what came was cheers.
She smiled to herself and by this time Hiccup and their friend group had come over
"Well done" Hiccup spoke softly to her before wrapping her in his arms
"For what?" Y/n laughed
"Everything" they pulled away and smiled and their lips were inches apart when Snotlout ran up
"Holy Thor you can talk to dragons, I thought you were joking back on the island!"
Y/n laughed "nope but I didn't think you'd would believe me anyway honestly I wasn't going to tell anyone"
Everyone started asking her questions and her mood quickly went cold, she regretted doing what she done, she didn't have the answers they were looking for.
"Come on Strike" she nodded and walked away, leaving everyone confused.
"What's up with her?" Snotlout asked with a scoff
Hiccup sighed before replying "you'd were asking a million questions she's just been through the death of her whole family it was a lot at once guys" the boy hopped on his dragon and took off after the girl.

Hiccup knew exactly were Y/n would go - her old cave, he quietly landed Toothless behind it and walked round
"I know what you are going to say Hiccup" Y/n sighed as he sat down beside her
"And what is that" he said as he wrapped his arm around her
"I was rude and shouldn't have done that"
"Actsully I was going to say well done for everything, I understand why you left" Hiccup smiled at her
"Thank you" she smiled back.
Just as she was about to speak again, Strike came out of the cave growling at something
"What is it bud?" Y/n asked with concern
'Something's here' he growled again
"Easy bud, it's just Hiccup and Toothless" Y/n got up and went in front of her very agitated dragon
'No!' He roared at her before cooing sadly, Toothless had came around now and stood by Hiccup
"Strike calm down, you're okay" Y/n tried to place her hand on his snout but he snapped at her
"Y/n?" Hiccup said, his voice lased with worry
'Y/n go now! It's like someone's in my head!' Strike roared again and shook his head back and forward as if trying to get whatever out
"No strike I'm not leaving you!" Y/n raised her voice
'Please' Strike whined but then it was like something within him snapped and he started edging towards his rider growling.
Y/n kept her hand out but it was no use, just as Strike's mouth let up, she was grabbed in Toothless' claws and they were flying
"Thanks guys" she sighed.
Soon she was atop Toothless and behind Hiccup
"Why can we never catch a break" she sighed
"I'm not sure but we need to work out what's going on, it can't be the leeches again, did anything happen on the way here?" Hiccup asked
"No, Toothless do you know anything?" Y/n said, stroking the dragon's wing in an attempt to comfort herself
'Strike has been funny since last night, he said not to tell you because you would worry but he has an infected cut under his stomach and he had a fever' Toothless sighed
" oh my gods how did I not realise that? Why didn't he just tell me and I could have helped him?" Y/n began to cry
"How did I not realise?" She repeated to herself
"Realise what?" Hiccup asked as Y/n hugged him and she explained everything
"Hiccup we are going to need to sedate him somehow and clean the cut, the fever must be getting to his head" Y/n spoke rapidly
"Thank Thor you drank the stream water" Hiccup sighed
"I know, at least we know what's wrong now come on we need to get stuff from Berk"
