Of summer days
In sleepy towns
Dreaming of
a past long gone, of kings and queens
and fairies
Sunny roads
And a trickle of sweat
Sweet
Like the smell of the earth when it rains.

(It hasn't rained here in so long)

I've been dreaming too,
Of lovers and laser-quests
Spinning stories
In plastic cups with crushed crayons.
Tinsel suns
And matchstick queens
Candy summers
And autumn greens
All add up
In this vanished land.

(I don't understand)

And the summer fades to blue and grey
To violet walls
And bleak portraits
Of wooden soldiers
In our books of old.

The stories they never told
Of broken glasses and cigar stubs
Burning letters
And coloured smoke

Of daffodils
And the posters on your bedroom wall

And I dream with them
Of a time that was supposed to be
Of a song we never got to sing
Of our days when it rained.

And I wish you were here
I hold your hand in the air
And smile
at the silver linings under our sky.

The tulips and the yellow leaves
promise a spring never to come.

And in the scars on my skin
among withered lilies
and falling suns
I build my castle in the air.
