A letter for grandpa

Grandpa
Sees an island in everyone he meets
Grandpa sees a tree
Which is there and not there.

Grandpa wrote a love song for himself
For he saw two lovers and saw them
Transfixed
upon a table.
Grandpa woke up and found himself an insect
Scuttling across silver sands
To the silent sea of time.

Grandpa brought the moment to a crisis
And failed
To communicate.
Grandpa talked and talked
And his words slipped away

Grandpa didn't dare to love
Grandpa gave up
On a day with no tomorrow,
Under the sea-bed
Grandpa would rest his head
And dream of sea waves singing him to sleep.

This is all that Grandpa has left us.
We inherited his tragedy,
doomed
to wait and wait and to wait.
