APPARENTLY, WHILE THEY WERE SHOOTING LEIF GARRETT (BOB SHELDON)'S DEATH SCENE, THEY WERE ACTUALLY FILMING ON THE OUTSIDE OF A HOTEL, AND THE FOUNTAIN BELONGED TO THE HOTEL. THEY ENDED UP TRASHING THE ENTIRE SET INCLUDING THE FOUNTAIN (WITH THE FAKE BLOOD) AND THE HOTEL ENDED UP GETTING RID OF THE FOUNTAIN ALTOGETHER.

I guess that whenever they filmed the scene, they used so much blood (that stained the white stone of the fountain) and the hotel thought it was a little too realistic for people that walked by it or sat on it. So, the hotel decided to get rid of the fountain as a whole. Since they were filming ON the actual sight of the hotel, they also used the hotel from time to time for the cast members to rest and take breaks between takes. The fountain is now being kept in a museum.
