Danielle.

"Congratulations Danielle. It's a baby girl." Said the doctor. I don't hear my baby screaming. Aren't babies are supposed to scream when they're born? I struggled to keep my eyes open to see my daughter. My vision was blurry, and I felt like passing out again. It must be the drugs they pumped into my system. I can't think straight. The drugs were supposed to knock me out for the entire birth while they did the c-section, but I woke up.

"Is she okay?" I managed to ask, heart beating like crazy. "We're checking on her, now. She was born at 20 weeks premature, which is very dangerous. Your little girl is very, very tiny. She'll be in the hospital for at least 14 weeks, even if nothing is horribly wrong." Said the nurse, pulling off her rubber gloves. They were covered in blood. "It's okay, Honey. You did well." Said my Father, squeezing my hand. I turned to look at him. He was giving me a proud smile. I don't remember my Dad being here...

I turned back towards the swarm of nurses. Squinting my eyes, I was able to see the outline of a baby being carried out of the hospital-room in a pink blanket. "Where are they taking my daughter..." I quietly asked, feeling my voice go hoarse. "To check on her for any problems." Said the nurse, dropping the rubber-gloves into the trash-can.

"I have to go help check on your daughter. She's going to have either some physical or mental defects. But who knows? Maybe you have yourself a miracle baby. I'll be right back with your daughter's birth certificate. The other nurses just have to fill in the weight and height, and they have to check the baby for any life-threatening problems. When I bring the birth certificate back, you can fill in the name-portion whenever you feel ready."

I nodded, breathing quickly and deeply. I forgot I'm going to have to name my daughter... I can't even remember which names I liked... I can barely think. I feel like falling asleep. But I want to see my baby... I want to see my brand new daughter. I also want to see Max and Madison. I miss them so much already.

A few minutes later, a nurse came in with the birth certificate. She put it down on a tray beside me, an apologetic grimace on her face. "What's wrong?" I yawned, as my dad took the birth-certificate from the nurse's outstretched arm. "As I suspected... Your daughter... She has some serious problems, that can never be fixed."

Those are the words that changed my life forever
