"the hell?" those were the first words you muttered when you woke up on the first day of the first year of high school. you reached for your phone to see who was blowing it up when you felt the most atrocious headache you have ever had in your life.

"fucking-" then you remembered. "oh, right" you came home completely wasted last night. you didn't know how much you drank, but the last thing you remember was crying on the balcony.

you were at kayea's and diluc's manor, as they both decided to host the end of the summer party. you went with hu tao and ayaka, one of the few people you actually tolerated, and wasn't just nice with them for your own purpose.

you three were having a pretty good time. you were a bit tipsy but not completely drunk. then suddenly the music started getting more depressing and you started to have an existential crisis. it maybe was because of the alcohol in your system or because of the xanax you just took.

you felt your throat tighten and your eyes to water. "no, no, no, not here" you turned to your friends "i'll be right back, i need some fresh air"

you ran upstairs to find an empty room, but because of your good luck you just kept walking on couples making out.

"hey don't you know that you have to knock first?" beidou, your upper classman said.

"no need to be so rude, you will scare the poor girl" ningguang, the girl she always kept her eyes on but always denied liking her, started scolding her.

"my apologies" you said and rushed to close the door. at the end of the hall, you finally saw a balcony, and by the looks of it, nobody was there.

as soon as you opened the door the fresh summery brize hit you in the face. as comforting as it was, the pain in your chest was worsening by the moment.

you weren't ready for a new school year, you just pulled it through the last one, how come summer ended so fast?

the music was muffled in the background, but you still didn't pay attention to it as you cried your heart out. when suddenly a stranger intruded your hiding spot.

"you mind if I smoke?"

you turned around and saw a boy, a little taller than you, lighting up his cigarette.

"only if you give me one" you actually needed one right now, and you just finished your pack this morning.

he looked at you for a straight 10 seconds then took out of his pocket a new pack of cigs.

"by the looks of it, you will need more than just one" he said as he tossed it to you, and you yourself didn't expect to actually catch it.

scaramouche, you knew who he was but you didn't know if he knew you. he was mostly a loner, excluding the only person he let in his company - xiao. their edgy personalities and their hatred towards everyone really complemented each other.

"wow thanks" you said as you opened the pack and took one cig out. as you put it between your lips you realized you left your bag with hu tao, where you had your lighter.

"actually if i may be so bold, could you lend me your lighter?" you turned to him as he nodded.

when you were preparing yourself to catch the lighter, he started walking towards you. you were left confused as he took out the lighter out of his pocket, bent down a little and light up your cigarette.

your heart skipped a beat, but you didn't let it show. "thanks, i owe you"

as you recalled the last night's events, you finally found the strength to reach out for your phone, as it kept vibrating because of the messages hu tao kept spamming you.

"oh god." you realised that you are gonna be late for school, and there goes all your plans to wake up early and make yourself look pretty. but who cares, you will still pull something out.

because of the time pressure, you decided to wear something casual but still not looking like a homeless person, so you chose to wear a white laced around the collar shirt with beige baggy pants and a light gray zip up. you quickly did a light makeup and rushed to the door.

and there was hu tao standing outside ayato's car, and inside the car ayaka, thoma and of course, ayato were waiting for you.

"did the sleeping beauty finally decided to delight us with her presence?" ayato sarcastically remarked and you got into the backseat with hu tao.

"ew, ayato, that was not very gay of you, keep your cheap pickup lines for thoma" ayaka remarked in disgust.

"my dear sister, that's not a good way to speak to your older brother, and for your information, every bone in my body is heterosexual, because thoma is just a friend.

"pardon me, but if you didn't notice, if in 15 minutes we won't be present inside the hellhole we call school, we are going to get detention on our first day" hu tao finally spoke.

"yes ayato, please start the car" thoma told him with sweetness in his voice.

as you were waiting to get to the destination, you checked your bag to see if you didn't forget something while you were rushing.

"dude, you told me yesterday that you have to buy a new pack of cigs, when did you manage to get one?" ayaka remarked.

"oh, actually scaramouche gave it to me yesterday when we were at the party."

"SCARAMOUCHE?!" everyone said in unison.
