The Captain Goes Down with the Ship

I've been trying to dance with the pieces,
Better to release but I refuse to leave it,

Even when it looks like I've got no reason to believe,
But I already know this will end on my knees

With broken prayers and shattered dreams,
Everything worth fighting for is stripped away it seems,

And sometimes they say
‘Just wait

For the better yes,’
But I already know there's nothing left.

I'd rather stay standing on this sinking ship
Than give in

Because of part of me holds onto hope,
Or maybe I'm not strong enough to let go.

I've been told to set fire to the paintings,
It is only now I'm way too close to fainting,

So I'll wait until my eyes see the final glimpse before I go under,
The taste of the promised land I'll never discover

Because everything I waited for with open arms
Was the one thing that returned the deceived state of a broken heart,

But I’ve become too weary to get up again,
Won’t attempt to pretend,

That at all times
It will be alright

All because I grasped what I would soon let go
