Seraphina walks into Visual Art, her makeup immaculate as per usual. Her long hair is up in a ponytail, a few tiny braids from her hairline pulled back into it. The usual silver rings decorate her fingers as her hands grip the shoulder straps of her new seafoam backpack.

"I got kicked out of home yesterday," I overhear Seraphina saying to Jade as soon as she sits down.

What?!

"Mum and I got into a fight," Seraphina continues, "I'm living with my grandma at the moment."

"Oh my gosh," Jade comments.

"Grandma bought me this new backpack yesterday," Seraphina says, holding it up, "We went shopping – retail therapy."

"Is that your paternal grandmother?" Jade asks.

"No, my nanna is a bitch. It's actually Mum's mum."

"So nice of her to buy you the bag."

"I don't understand why Mum and I are fighting. We used to be so close —"

Ms Clark walks into class, beginning the first lesson.

I never would have guessed there was turbulence in Seraphina's life. She's the image of flawlessness. Seraphina even comes from a nuclear family. I'm shocked she has a difficult relationship with her mother. And for it to be so bad, she's been kicked out. But it makes her more relatable.
