"That was close!"

Pooka came beside me. He could hear my heart pounding.

"Pooka! You almost blew my cover!"

He whimpered.

"She looks beautiful," I said as I looked at her through the curtains once more.

"Who is that creep?!" I asked but then I remembered Pooka was the only one who knew I was there. Pooka titled his head towards me as if he understood.

"What if I ask Vlad?"

Pooka's ears perked up ready to get Vlad.

"NO! That will blow my cover."

Pooka stopped in his tracks.

"I need to see her again one last time. I need to tell her how I feel."

I looked through the curtains once more and I saw her radiant smile as her confidence shined through her.

"She must be happy with that Royal she is with. I have never seen her smile that way towards me, Pooka. She never loved me and she never will. I'm just the servant boy who worked in the palace and that's all I will ever be."

Pooka looked at me miserably.

"Look at me! I'm out of my mind. I'm going crazy that I'm talking to a dog."

Pooka growled at me. I laughed.

"I'm sorry boy. I just miss her so much."

I took out the rose she gave me the night we went shopping in Paris. The day I realized she truly was the Grand Duchess Anastasia. My childhood love from when I was a young boy. The love that could never be.

"I have to go. I can't take her away from the home she just found."

Pooka whimpered once more.

"Dimitri?"

A voice behind the curtain called out my name.
