a promise not reciprocated (haiku sonnet)

I made a promise

to be by your side as you

said we were a team

I kept my promise

lending an ear to your woes

with comforting words

I thought in my heart

you would do the same for me

that you would be there

you were for a time

but slowly you pulled away

leaving my side cold

my eyes saw the written signs

but my heart refused to see
