I wandered into the forests. The rain fell onto my head and shoulders, giving me chills. I’d been walking for hours. My doll was soaked and my dress was too. The tiny limbs of my six-year-old body trembled from being cold.

“Daddy?”

It was as if the trees began to close in on me like hidden beasts.

“Daddy?” I called. A deep, throaty growl filled my ears. Fear filled my nerves. “D-Daddy?”

Slowly I turned to see a werewolf standing in front of me. He seemed familiar but I couldn’t place him. He bared his long dog teeth and jumped on me. I screamed in terror as my doll flew from my hands. “No! Stop!” I cried out as its teeth sank into my shoulder. The beast began to growl and shake its head side-to-side, ripping me apart.“Daddy help me!” I wailed,“Daddy!

“Maya! Maya!”

My eyes shot open. Intense light blinded me for a few moments. Strong fingers pinned me to the ground. Someone was above me, shaking my torso. Screaming I thrashed out of sheer panic, my hands changing into claws and scratching at whatever was in front of me. “Maya! Maya stop!”

Slowing down I saw Jake was the one clasped onto me. He was holding onto my wolf-like hand by the wrist. “Maya calm down!” Beads of sweat rolled down my face.

“W-What?” I gasped.

“You were having a nightmare Maya.” He spoke more softly. While he was sitting beside me, other vampires stood behind. Each of them had tired expressions. They were probably wondering what woke them up. “Are you alright?” Jake asked. One of the vampires I picked out easily. The Angry One, as I came to call him. He had been one of the vampires who wondered why I was unchained for the first time. And now he was here, glaring at me with his dark eyes. “Maya?”

I turned to Jake.

“What?”

“Are you alright?”

No.

“Yeah.”

“You sure?”

No.

“Yeah.”

Hearing this, the vampires left. All except one. He, The Angry One, remained. His evil trance was still fixed on me.

“Why is she here, again?” He hissed. Jake shot him a look telling him to leave. The vampire huffed. “It’ll be better when we eat her.” Then he was gone, running with immortal speed to catch up with the others. I stared at Jake wide-eyed.

“E-Eat me?”

“Ignore him. He’s all mouth.”

“Yeah,” I grimaced, “And all teeth.”

“Maya, relax. He’s harmless.”

“Jake I’ve learned that you never underestimate an immortal.”

He nodded.

“You’re right…” After a few seconds of silence, Jake spoke again, “Maya…what was your nightmare about?”

I rolled onto my side facing away from him.

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Alright, I’ll respect that.”

Images of the werewolf still haunted my mind, making me shake.

“Maya…”

“Hm?”
