                      -Amelia Norton-

                                                        Three Days Ago

Loud boom in my ears, I could feel it thudding in my chest. Breath, cool through hot, dry throat, skin that ached and itched. Eyes that pulled open to darkness. Shaking. I could feel something was different. A rush in my veins, energy and anxiety.

Cold, cold, my skin was laid on something freezing. A metal table. I moved my hands up, unbound, through the bleakness, I could still see them bright as day, spotlighted. I looked down at my naked body, the wound over my ribs closed up, a large white scar in its place.

I looked around, searching for someone, for something. I was in a room, I didn't know where. The walls were lined with green lights that stung to look at. My skin was rippling, not from the cold table, fear, something crawling under my skin.

I got up, pulling a hospital gown from off the end of the metal table I'd been on and pulling it on over my arms. I searched frantically around the walls for a door, my hands burning under the green lights, the skin prickling a little more. "Let me out." I couldn't hear my own voice, it was less than a whisper.

"Just as soon as you have a few things understood," a voice scrambled over a loud speaker made me jump. It was so loud through my ears it sent me to my knees. "You are a Nocturnal now, but the serum in your veins is going to ensure your loyalty to me is never in question. When I give an order, you obey, or I'll turn the serum off and your internal organs will fail without their new operating system, as it were. The first Nocturnal with a kill switch..." The voice cackled into a smug laugh.

"N...no..." I shook.
