Cashton's POV:

The week actually flew by really quickly.  We went on about two dates and we just decided to wait until after the barbecue to go on another one.

So, in this free time, I caught up on Alpha duties and Katie drew some more pictures to sell. It took a while, but I convinced her to raise the prices. And after all, it did some good. Everyone is still bidding on the pictures which means Katie is getting more money for college.

While going through the last document,  Ian and Aaron both ran in my office with their faces as pale as death. "What's wrong?" I asked immediately knowing something had happened.  "Alpha. We checked into Katie's records like you asked and we think we found the reason why she won't talk." Ian said.

"It turns out that her parents died in a car crash on their anniversary.  And sje was with them. I'm guessing she probably blames herself. Also,  we think we found the reason why someone is after her. It turns out that since her parents died, she inherited a lot of money. We thought it would be someone related so we checked it out. We found that besides her grandmother, she has one uncle. His name is Pete and initially he was suppised to get the money but instead it went to her dad instead of him. Katie doesn't know this because on ber 18th birthday,  the lawyers are going to contact her." Aaron said in a rush.

That was something I was not expecting. It made me want to feel sorry fir her and hold her even closer to me. "There's something else Alpha." Ian stated. And I returned my gaze to him.

"She didn't get away unharmed.  She spent 8 months in the hospital because glass punctured her skin and organs. She now has scars on her back, stomach,  and other places." Well, I guess that's why she doesn't wear skirts and only wears long sleeve shirts.

"We need to find this Pete, and we can only assume that the rogues and him are working together. Don't let her story slip, she'll tell me in her own time, in her own way." I ordered, using my alpha tone to say how serious this was. "Yes, Alpha.  And by the way. You shoukd go ahead end start heading out to Katie's. Your mom is anxious on meeting her." I groaned thinking about her reaction when she sees Katie.

Now,  I love my mom to death,  but she likes to take things to extreme. I reply to them before grabbing my keys and heading out. During the drive, I think about ways to keep Katie extra protected.

If I am correct about them working together,  then we gotta have more strategies to protect her. I pull up in her driveway, and see that another car is here. Must be her grandmother,  I thought. I head up the steps and knock. Waiting for a couple of minutes before an elderly woman opened the door. "Who are you?" she asked glaring daggers at me. "Hi, I'm Cashton Anderson. Katie's boyfriend. Is she ready for our outing?" I asked shifting nervously.  Something told me not to get on this woman's bad side.

Right on cue, Katie comes down the stairs in a blue sundress with a sweater. "Can you wait by your car. I wanna speak to Katie for a minute." She said, then slammed the door.  Something told me that this wasn't going to end well, so I used my werewolf hearing to eavesdrop.

"What do you think you are doing Katie. I said to not talk to boys. I said you couldn't date. Ya know,  if you didn't beg so much to join your parents on their anniversary. Then they would still be alive to deal with you." I really wanted to go in there and drag Katie away from this but I know I couldn't.

Slap,  was the only sound I heard after a couple minutes of silence,  followed by two more. I flinched, having to fight my wolf from going in there and taking that woman's head off. "Now you listen here. If you step out that door, you don't come back. I'm through with caring for your dumbass. You go and don't come back. You make my life hell anyway. You won't even speak. Your worthless."

There was about 5 minutes of silence before I heard the front door open.  I looked up and saw Katie, with tears streaming down her face, and handprints on both her cheeks. I almost went in there and gave her grandmother a piece of my mind but her expression stopped me. I saw in her eyes that she just wanted to leave, so I took her hand and helped her in the passenger seat. I got in on my side mindlinking my pack warriors to sneak i ti her room, pack her things, and put them in the spare bedroom at my house.

"If you want Katie you can move in with me, I mean,  I have ny own house with a spare bedroom.  And your almost 18. But only if you want." I looked over at her while she thought.  After a few seconds she looked back at me and nodded her head yes. I breathed a sigh of relief.

Ten minutes into the drive, I hear words, words so quiet that of I wasn't a werewolf, I could've missed them. "I'm ready." Katie said looking me in the eye. "I'm finally ready to tell my story."

I looked at her in shock. Then cleared my head and said, "If your ready to tell,  then I'm ready to listen."

    "Okay, sounds fair." She said
