The dinner table was surrounded by people. All of the Blackthorns, Kit, and Mina were there. Livvy was invisible to everyone except Kit and Ty, but she was still there. He sat next to Ty like he used to. Kit hadn't thought they'd ever see each other again let alone be friends, but miracles happen. Ty wore his headphones around his neck. He wasn't listening to any music, just talking to Kit. Kit always enjoyed their conversations. Sometimes they were about animals or Sherlock Holmes. Other times they were just about random things. Tonight, their conversation was about Devon. Ty wanted to know how Kit's new life was, so Kit had to explain everything. Ty wouldn't let him get away with being vague. He had to tell him everything.
"How's Church doing?"
Kit knew that Church loved Ty. Ty was one of the only people that stupid cat loved.
"Church is fine."
"Well obviously! Jem is taking care of him. Give me details, Watson."
Kit smiled. He didn't realize how much he loved being called Watson. It was a reminder of his friendship with Ty. "Church hates everyone, as always. The only person he loves in our house is Jem. He loves to scratch me and hiss at me. I don't understand why he hates me so much. Everyone loves me."
"How's your training going?"
"I'm much better than I was before," Kit said, purposefully being vague.
"Details, Watson," Ty sighed.
Kit felt butterflies in his stomach. Wasn't that a sign of nerves? Why was he nervous around Ty? "Well, uh, I learned more runes and angels' names. I learned new fighting techniques. I'll be practicing falling soon."
Ty nodded, almost ignoring the bowl of pasta in front of him. "Seems like you've improved very much, Watson."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Kit asked, pretending to be insulted, "I was already perfect."
Livvy laughed along with him and Ty. He barely heard Livvy's laughter. The only thing that mattered was Ty's laughter. Ty's face scrunched up when he laughed and his eyes would light up. Ty pushed his hair out of his face, still laughing. Kit was surprised that Ty had understood his joke. Ty didn't usually detect sarcasm, but maybe he was learning. Ty glanced at Kit, catching him in the act of staring. Kit quickly looked away, blushing slightly. He hoped no one had noticed.
     "So, how's the Scholomance?"
Ty's face lit up in excitement. "It's really great!"
"Details, Sherlock," Kit teased,
"Well, that's where I saved Irene. She's really sweet. You'll love her. She has the most beautiful eyes and fur. I've learned a lot at the Scholomance. I'm here for summer break. The teachers know so much. I can't wait to learn it all!"
Kit couldn't help but feel upset that Ty was at the Scholomance. Even though Kit would be back in Devon in a few weeks, he wished Ty wouldn't go to the Scholomance. He didn't know why he felt this way, but he did. Kit finished his dinner and waited for Ty. Ty hadn't eaten much yet. He had been completely focused on the conversation. He quickly finished his dinner and thanked Kit for waiting for him.
Ty beckoned for Kit to follow him. They left the other Blackthorns behind, Livvy tagging along. Kit had secretly been looking forward to this moment since this afternoon. Ty had told him to come to his room after dinner. He hadn't said anything else. Kit couldn't explain why he was so excited to spend time with Ty. They had just become friends again. Ty climbed the stairs two at a time. Kit struggled to keep up, almost tripping over a step. Livvy floated behind them. Ty led Kit to his room, opening the door. Irene pounced on Ty, pawing playfully at him.
"Irene!" Ty exclaimed, petting her fur. Irene purred.
Irene looked almost fully grown. She was at the point where pouncing might hurt the person she was pouncing on. Ty would never complain about it, though. Kit could tell he loved Irene. The way his face lit up when he saw her was a huge giveaway. Ty didn't change his voice like most people did around animals. He also didn't talk much to her. Ty knew that Irene wouldn't understand. Kit always talked to animals, even though they couldn't understand a word he said to them. Ty carefully pushed Irene off of him. He brushed the fur off of his clothes and pushed himself up from the ground.
"Kit, this is Irene. She's a Carpathian lynx."
Kit took a few steps closer to Irene, who looked like a very large cat. "Tell me about her," Kit said, petting Irene softly. Anyone could tell that Irene loved the attention. She closed her eyes and purred loudly, lowering herself to the ground. Her legs stuck out as she rested on her side.
"The Carpathian lynx is a subspecies of the Eurasian lynx found in the Carpathian Basin of Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. They mainly prey on hares, rabbits, rodents and grouse. They will eat larger animals, such as a roe deer, when food is scarce. The Carpathian lynx is part of the cat family. They are shy and powerfully built. They aren't fast runners but they shouldn't need to run fast. They usually leap meters from the treetops onto the backs of their unsuspecting prey. At birth, lynx kittens weigh 240 to 430 grams and are blind and helpless. They typically stay with their mother until they are 10 months old. Their main predator are wolves, but their remains have been found in the contents of Siberian tigers' stomachs. They are also threatened from habitat destruction."
Kit loved hearing Ty talk about things that interested him. Ty always seemed passionate about the information he shared, no matter how boring. Kit would never remember all of the information Ty just spouted out, but he would remember how Ty's voice changed when he talked about something he loved. He didn't usually share his research with others, probably because he knew they weren't interested. Kit realized he had been silent for an awkward amount of time. Ty's face went red.
"Sorry," he said shyly. "Was that too much information?"
Kit shook his head furiously. "No!" he reassured him. "It was very interesting, a great summary of the Carpathian lynx!"
Ty smiled his stunning smile. His stomach did cartwheels. Kit couldn't look away. He was trapped in the light of Ty's smile, unable to move. He couldn't look away, no matter how hard he tried.
"So, do you like Irene?"
Kit nodded. "She's beautiful and her fur is really soft," Kit said, still petting her brown fur.
"Livvy found her. Irene was injured, but Livvy couldn't do anything because she was a ghost. She brought me to Irene and Catarina Loss helped me find out what Irene needs for a happy and healthy life."
"Isn't it her dinner time?" Livvy inquired.
"Yes, around now. I'll go get her some chicken." Ty left without another word.
Livvy looked around, making sure no one else was nearby. This made Kit nervous. He knew Livvy wouldn't do anything to hurt him, but his instincts told him to run. "That should take him awhile. He has to shred the chicken and everything. Kit, will you shut the door?"
Kit obliged and returned to his seat on the ground next to Irene. "Is something wrong, Livvy?"
She shook her head. "I just have a simple question."
     "Go ahead, shoot."
     "Do you like Ty?"
The bluntness of her question surprised him. He didn't know what to say. It was like he was cornered. "I mean, uh, yeah. Of course I like Ty. We're great friends."
She rolled her eyes and sighed. "You know what I mean. Do you like like Ty?"
"No!" Kit said frantically. "We're just friends. Sherlock and Watson were never together! They were friends."
Too much, Kit thought. It sounds like you're trying to cover something up.
Livvy quirked an eyebrow. "The way you look at him makes me think you think of him as more than a friend."
"How do I look at him, then?"
"Allow me to demonstrate!"
Livvy looked off into the distance with pouted lips and puppy dog eyes. Kit blushed a little. Was that really what he looked like when he was around Ty? Livvy returned her gaze to Kit, a grin on her face.
"You also blush when he calls you Watson," she points out. "You get this stupid grin when you're around him, sometimes. Is that enough proof for you?"
Kit shook his head. "I do not look at Ty that way. I look at him like all friends do. You're just over exaggerating."
"Alright," she sighed, holding her hands up in surrender, "If that's what you think."
The door opened and Ty held a pile of sliced chicken in his hand. The light from the window shone on his black hair, making it look like he had a halo. He smiled when Irene padded up to him to receive her chicken. His teeth glinted in the light. Ty looked at Irene adoringly. He was simply amazing.
How beautiful, he thought.
"Kit, do you want to feed Irene?"
Ty's voice brought him back to reality. He quickly nodded and accepted the piece of sliced chicken Ty held out for him.
"Hold it like this," Ty said, moving to help Kit.
He took the chicken out of Kit's hand and placed it on his palm.
"Let her come over and sniff it," he instructed.
Kit nodded as Irene stalked over. She sniffed his hand, looking deep into his eyes, then opened her mouth and gobbled up the chicken. Ty smiled.
     "She likes you."
"Unlike Church."
Ty didn't understand the joke, but Kit didn't care. He just wanted Ty to be happy. He found himself staring into Ty's gray eyes as he fed Irene. Did Ty know he was incredible? Kit quickly looked away and stared at all of the books in Ty's room which were organized by color. Ty fed the last piece of chicken to Irene who was purring. He pet Irene a few times before returning to Kit and his twin sister.
"What do you guys wanna do?" Livvy asked, clearly bored.
Kit shrugged, looking at Ty for an answer. He didn't know why he did that. It was unlikely Ty would answer that question. He saw Livvy roll her eyes, sighing.
"If you aren't going to choose, then I will. We're playing Truth or Dare."
Kit had played that game a few times with the Blackthorn family. With the Blackthorns, Truth or Dare can get crazy. Kit had learned that picking dare usually resulted in a very embarrassing thing happening. Picking truth resulted in an embarrassing secret no longer being a secret. There was no winning with this game. One time when he picked dare, Dru dared him to watch part of a horror movie with her. Everyone watched as he shrieked and almost cried. Everyone was laughing. It was really embarrassing. When he picked truth, Tavvy asked him if he had a crush. He had said no and the game continued. He had mixed feelings about Truth or Dare. He didn't like being embarrassed, but he liked watching everyone else be embarrassed. Kit was about to object when Livvy held up her hand, stopping him.
"You didn't come up with anything else. Now you have to play." She laughed evilly, pressing her hands together like villains do in a movie.
     "Fine," he sighed.
They sat in a circle, Livvy grinning like a maniac. Kit couldn't help but be afraid of what would happen in this game of Truth or Dare. It was unfair that Kit and Ty would be the only ones being embarrassed tonight. No one could see Livvy, so no matter how awful the dare, no one would know.
"Livvy, truth or dare?" Kit said.
     "Dare."
"Alright. I dare you to sing at the top of your lungs."
She giggled before screeching the tune to her favorite song. Kit could barely tell what tune it was. He immediately covered his ears. Ty put his headphones on. Kit could still hear her. It was like nails on a chalkboard. She kept belting the song, even though she noticed Kit and Ty's pain. Livvy gave them a tiny smile when she was done. Kit sighed with relief.
     "Thank the angel!"
Ty lowered his headphones once he was sure the singing was over. Livvy doubled over with laughter. "You should have seen your faces!" she wheezed. She took a deep breath and returned to seriousness. "Kit, truth or dare?"
He didn't know what to choose. He had too many embarrassing stories to pick truth, but picking dare could be just as embarrassing. It's like picking between two poisons. He was trying to find the lesser of two evils. He tapped his fingers against his leg, considering. "Dare."
Livvy's eyes lit up mischievously. "I dare you to tell the most beautiful person in this room that you love them."
He knew what Livvy was doing. She thought she caught him, but there was a loophole. He walked towards Ty, Livvy squealing with excitement. Kit walked right past him and towards the mirror in Ty's room. He stared at himself for a moment. He was a mess today. His hair was going in so many different directions, and he looked exhausted.
"I love you, Kit," he said to his reflection, blowing it a kiss. He returned to the circle, smiling proudly. "Ty, truth or dare?"
     "Truth."
"Who's your favorite book character ever? You can only pick one."
"That's a difficult question, Watson. There's so many good characters." He ran his hands through his hair in concentration. "I'd have to say Sherlock Holmes. He's smart and has so many layers to his personality. Most people would think he's inhuman and unpleasant, but he's not. I can tell from what he says and does in the stories. I don't believe people are exactly who you think they are. Julian isn't just a painter. Emma isn't just a great Shadowhunter. Dru isn't just someone who loves horror movies. Mark and Helen aren't just half faerie. You aren't—you aren't just a Herondale." He was fidgeting with one of his toys and rocking back and forth slightly. Kit felt like his heart would explode. Ty always found a way to fill his heart with joy. He could feel a blush creeping up in his cheeks. He looked down at his feet, hiding the blush. Ty looked between Kit and Livvy, deciding who to choose.
"Livvy, truth or dare?"
"Truth."
Ty thought for a moment. "Do you like Irene?"
It was a simple question. Why couldn't Livvy learn from her brother and ask less embarrassing questions? Kit knew she would pick him for the next round. She could leave this room knowing all of his secrets. He couldn't let that happen, but he didn't know how to stop it. He could avoid picking truth, but she could just dare him to answer a question. He didn't know what was going on in her mind. He did know that she seemed set on getting him to say he liked Ty. He didn't like Ty like that. They were just friends. They were Sherlock and Watson, not Bella and Edward. He had watched Twilight recently with Jem and Tessa. Mina was not allowed to watch that movie. Kit had mixed feelings about the movie. He thought the vampires and werewolves were cool, but he didn't love the plot. He'd still watch the next movies, though.
     "Yes," Livvy answered.
Ty smiled, petting Irene's soft, brown fur. He found himself staring at Ty again. Kit wrenched his eyes away from Ty. Why did he keep staring at Ty? Livvy still had that mischievous look in her eyes. She was definitely up to something, but he didn't know what. He wanted the game to be over. He just wanted to sit and watch Ty read and whisper his favorite words. He wanted to sit at the beach, holding hands. He wanted to show Ty the Sherlock Holmes movie. He knew Ty would think that the book is always better than the movie, but he still wanted to show it to him. He wanted to tell Ty every one of his secrets. He trusted Ty as much as he trusted Jem and Tessa. He wanted Ty to know that he was a descendant of the First Heir. He wanted to—
No, no, no, no, no! he thought. He didn't still have feelings for Tiberius Blackthorn. He couldn't. Kit had been brave enough to tell Ty about his feelings for him. He had been brave enough to hope for someone to love him. Ty had destroyed that hope. How could he possibly still have feelings for him?
It was how Ty treated everyone with respect, how he was different. Kit loved Ty's differences. Ty saw the world differently than everyone else, and he loved that. He loved Ty's kindness and willingness to do anything for family. It was those beautiful gray eyes and black hair. It was how Ty would never let anything stop him if he was determined enough. Ty was perfect. If anyone said otherwise, Kit would explode. If anyone treated Ty without the respect he deserved, Kit would defend him. He knew Ty didn't need it, but he would be there anyway.
Kit knew Ty didn't feel the same way about him, so he would always be there for him as a friend. If he couldn't be happy, the least he could do was make sure Ty was happy. He could help him find the one he would marry. Kit would never give up on Ty's happiness. Watching him date or marry someone else would hurt, but he would suffer through it for Ty. If Ty was happy, Kit would be too.
"Kit, truth or dare?"
"Truth?" he said hesitantly.
Livvy smirked. "Who's your crush?"
He couldn't tell her about Ty. She had known before he did. Ty was in the room! Did Livvy expect him to confess his feelings for Ty in front of him? He could feel panic rising in his stomach. He wanted to be invisible or hide from the world. Kit would take an embarrassing dare over answering that question. "Dare," he said quickly.
"I dare you to tell me who your crush is."
Kit should've seen that coming. He'd just have to pretend to not have a crush. Hopefully Livvy would believe him. She couldn't push farther in front of Ty. If she did, hopefully Ty would stop her. Kit couldn't take the embarrassment that would come with confessing his feelings for Ty, again. He'd done it once and he was rejected. Couldn't Livvy just leave his love life to him to figure out?
"I don't have one," he said, voice shaking slightly.
     "So you don't like anyone?"
"Not like that. I just got out of a relationship a few weeks ago, so please let it rest."
Livvy's eyes widened. "You dated someone?"
     "Multiple people, Livvy."
Kit didn't know why she seemed shocked by the news. Did she expect him to never date anyone?
     "Names?"
     "Emma, Isabella, and Diane."
"Were you in love with someone else? Was that why you broke up with them?"
Livvy was really pushing to get him to confess and Ty wasn't helping him out of the situation. He was fidgeting with one of his toys with his headphones on. He was alone with Livvy. Ty probably couldn't hear them very well. Livvy knew this.
"Actually, Livvy, most of them broke up with me. The answer to your question is no. I was not in love with anyone else while I was dating Emma, Isabella, and Diane. Why are you so set on this question?"
"You know why."
"But I don't," Ty said, taking off his headphones. "Livvy, Kit, what's going on?"
Livvy sighed. She had been caught. "I thought Kit had a crush and I was trying to help him. He doesn't seem to want to admit it. I understand that. I just thought he would tell his best friends."
Ty looked at Kit, considering. "Watson, you don't have to tell us. My sister and I would love to know when you're ready to tell us. I would always support you, and my sister would give you advice. Sherlock is always there for Watson. Don't be afraid to tell us anything. We would understand."
How could he understand if he was the one he loved. Ty would never understand his feelings for him. They would split apart again. Livvy was only trying to help. He knew that, but what Livvy didn't know was that he had already told Ty how he felt. He had been rejected. Kit never wanted to be rejected by Ty again.
I love you, Ty. I love you, he had said. Ty hadn't said it back. He had ruined their friendship by telling him. He should've just kept his feelings a secret. He should've known Ty would never love him. Kit wasn't good enough for Ty. He knew that now and he would never make that mistake again.
"Thanks for the support," he started, "But I don't have anyone to tell you about." He took one last look at Ty's confused face before leaving. "I'll see you guys tomorrow." Kit let out a sigh. He was safe now. He had made it through Truth or Dare without anyone finding out about his feelings for Ty. Kit hadn't even known he felt that way. He'd always dismissed any thoughts of Ty being beautiful. He'd convinced himself that he didn't feel that way about Ty. Sometimes, he wished he didn't feel that way. Everything would be so much easier if he just saw Ty as a friend. But he didn't. Kit knew that now.
Kit stepped into his room which was becoming more and more familiar. He had only been at the Los Angeles Institute for a few days, but it was beginning to feel more like home. He loved waking up everyday and seeing the Blackthorns. They were like a second family to him. Kit had been lucky. He'd been lucky to have a family that took him in and treated him like part of the family. He'd been lucky to have people understand what he was going through after his father died. Kit had hated the Blackthorns at first, but he had grown to love them. They used to be such a big part of his life, but then he cut them out of it. Kit knew why he did it, but he still felt bad. Even if Ty didn't love him, the other Blackthorns still cared for him and he had left them without saying goodbye. They had tried to protect him. Emma would've died for him when the Riders of Manaan attacked him. Luckily, she hadn't, but she would have. It was a blessing and a curse to have someone care for you that much. It was great to know that your presence was appreciated, but Kit wouldn't have been able to forgive himself if any of the Blackthorns had died for him.
His mind traveled to Livvy who had been brave enough to aid her brother in battle. She had been so brave. Livvy had thrown Julian a sword to help him fight Annabelle, and for that, she got a shard of the mortal sword to the heart. He remembered thinking that Shadowhunters were almost impossible to kill. He had learned that day that he couldn't have been more wrong. Livvy had died for her family, pools of blood surrounding her as her life ebbed away. She had never had the chance to finish her last words. "Ty? Ty I—" was all she got to say before she fell to the ground, dead. Kit hadn't cried in front of the Blackthorns. He didn't want them to think he was belittling their suffering by showing them his. He had only known Livvy for a short amount of time. He hadn't cried then. He had stayed strong for Ty, but as soon as he had made it behind closed doors, he had broken out in sobs. Life would never be fair. Bad things would always happen. Kit would just have to move on, not forget, but move on from the pain. It was always so hard. He wanted to move on from Ty rejecting him, and he had until he saw Ty again. Kit knew he would never be able to look at Ty without wishing for Ty to love him back.
"He'll never love you," he whispered, "Not like that." The words hurt to say. They brought tears to his eyes. Before he even knew it, tears were rolling down his cheeks fast. It was like a flood. He had hidden so much of his pain from everyone. He was finally able to let out his anger and sadness. He was alone, which meant he was safe. Tears wouldn't stop falling. Soon, he was curled up in a ball, sobbing. He had heard footsteps passing his door a few times. When that happened, Kit jumped up from the ground, wiping away the tears. Luckily, no one had knocked on his door, and he was left alone to cry. Kit knew Shadowhunters weren't supposed to cry. He knew Herondales didn't cry. Kit wasn't supposed to cry, but he did it anyway. It made him feel weak, and small. Usually, he found a way to seem confident and powerful, no matter how broken he was on the inside. Now, anyone could tell how weak he truly was. Anyone could tell he was not as confident as he seemed to be. When he was broken or terrified, he wore a mask of confidence to hide how weak he really was. If the Shadowhunters knew he wasn't strong, they would think he was a bad Shadowhunter. Maybe he was, but he didn't want people to think that.
Kit felt a strange tingling in the palms of his hands. He looked down at them and saw two yellow-ish-white orbs floating above them glowing brightly.
"Oh, come on!" he muttered angrily. It was his faerie magic acting up again. Tessa, Jem, and Magnus had helped him learn to control his magic. He thought back to his lessons and remembered that the first step is to be calm. He took a deep breath, but he didn't feel any more in control of his powers than he had before. He skipped to the second step, hoping it would work. Kit thought of the orbs vanishing from his hands. He willed it to happen, but the orbs were still there. Why was nothing working? He heard a knock on the door. Kit began to panic. The orbs grew larger and brighter.
"Who is it?" he called, his stress clearly displayed in his voice.
"Kit, are you alright?" Kit knew that voice anywhere. It was Ty. Livvy was probably with him too. Kit would never dream of hurting Ty, but it could end up happening if he let them in. He imagined Ty, dying in front of him because of his powers. Ty's life ebbing away because of him. Ty, dead because he couldn't control the powers he never even asked for. Kit could feel his little control over his magic slipping away from him. If anyone came near him, he wouldn't be able to stop his magic from attacking them.
"Ty?" he called.
"Yes?"
"Get your family, Mina, and yourself to the beach! I'll meet you there."
"Why?"
"Something very dangerous is about to happen, Ty. I need everyone to be safe."
"I'm not leaving without you. If something dangerous is about to happen, you should be safe too." He heard Ty twist the doorknob. He felt as if his panic was drowning him. He wasn't going to last long against his magic. He needed Mina and the Blackthorns to get far away from the Institute.
"Ty, please," he begged.
"Fine, but promise me you'll find me on the beach once you get there."
"I promise. Now go!"
He heard Ty's receding footsteps and immediately felt some relief. At least everyone would be safe. He just had to hold onto his control for a little longer. Kit waited until he knew for sure that everyone would be gone. Every second he spent holding his powers back took a huge toll on Kit. He was exhausted and sweating. Once he heard the Institute doors slam shut, he stopped trying to hold back his magic.
Kit watched as magic exploded from his body, surrounding him in bright light. He was blinded by the light, but he didn't care. Once the light dimmed and everything was normal, Kit looked around at the damage he had caused. His room was destroyed, burned by the light. Parts of his walls were missing. His bed was destroyed, but Kit didn't care at the moment. It felt amazing to let out all of that magic. He no longer felt panicked. He felt surprisingly alive. Kit felt like he could do anything. He realized how much magic he must have used and was confused why he felt so energetic. Then, it hit him. A wave of tiredness crashed over him. His legs began to wobble. They could give out any second. Kit knew what was going to happen. It happened after he blasted magic out of his hands to attack the Riders of Manaan. He was losing consciousness.
No, he thought. I have to get to Ty.
He took a few shaky steps towards the door and pulled it open. Everything was destroyed. Some things survived his magic, but most things didn't. Kit didn't have time to stare at the wreckage. He had to get to Ty. Kit continued moving, desperate to get to Ty. He barely made it to the stairs when he realized he could just draw a stamina rune. He reached in his pocket for his stele. Luckily, it was there. He fumbled with the stele, drawing a stamina rune. He immediately felt less exhausted. He hurried down the steps, and opened the front doors. The beach wasn't far now. Kit felt the energy diminishing. He drew another rune with his stele to help him make it to the beach. He couldn't break his promise. He had to find Ty on the beach. He sprinted towards the beach, stopping to draw another rune. This time, the rune gave him less energy.
Just a little while longer, Kit thought, pushing himself forward. He was too exhausted to celebrate when his feet touched the sand. He drew another stamina rune. This time was weaker than the last. Every time he drew it, it got weaker and weaker. He was almost there. The sand made it impossibly difficult to run. With each step, his feet would sink into the sand.
Almost there, he thought.
He saw a group of people not too far away. He hoped that it was the Blackthorns. He prayed to the angel that it was the Blackthorns. He felt the power of the stamina rune wearing off. He looked at his arm and saw that the rune was fading fast. He had lost count of how many stamina runes he had drawn. They were losing their effect quicker every time. He clumsily drew another rune on his arm, hoping it would be the last one that got him to the Blackthorns. Kit began to wonder if he would make it to Ty. He had to. Finding Ty wasn't optional. He was only a few feet away from the Blackthorns. Kit could clearly see the Blackthorns now. Emma was with Julian, both of them looking worried. All of the Blackthorns looked terrified. Dru was with Mark, Helen, and Mina. Ty was about a foot away from the other Blackthorns with Livvy. He was staring at the ocean, probably thinking about all of the sea animals waiting to be discovered.
Kit used the last bit of energy he had to sprint towards Ty and Livvy. It wasn't really a sprint. It was more of a slow jog. If he stopped to draw another rune, Kit knew he would collapse. He had to make it just a few more feet. He thought of how much he loved Ty and the Blackthorns. Kit knew they were worried sick for him. He had to show them that he was okay.
Just a few more steps.
Kit saw black spots creeping into his vision. Ty had was wearing his headphones around his neck. At least Ty would be able to hear him when he spoke. He needed to get Ty's attention and tell him what was wrong. He stopped about a foot in front of Ty. Ty immediately knew something was wrong with Kit. His eyebrows furrowed.
"Kit, what is it?"
Kit could barely see Ty. His vision was blurred and spotted. "Ty?" he called. The world was spinning and he could barely stay standing. He saw the terrified look on Ty's face and tried to explain what was going on. "Ty, I—" Before he even had the chance to finish his sentence, everything went black.
