"What am I going to do when you all abandon me for Christmas," groans Trevor from my bed.

Jamie's lying across him, and Sarah's on the floor showing them some memes.

Ryan and I are sitting in front of the mirror listening to "Red" by Taylor Swift.

"Baby! You know Ryan, and I have no choice. Our moms are taking us to our grandparents," says Jamie in an annoyed voice. This isn't the first time he's complained about it today.

"I knowwwwwwwww, but I'm gonna miss you. You're my Queen," he says, and she seems won over for now.

"How long is the drive to Indiana, anyways?" I ask the room at large. Jamie and Ryan give me a weird look, "what?"

"Iowa. TK. Our moms are from Iowa, but it's like 12 hours," says Ryan with a head shake that makes his blonde hair move in waves.

"Oh. Ok, that's better, I guess," I say. "Sarah, what about you?"

She turns her attention to me, " it's like 7 hours to Albuquerque. But my dad speeds so 6ish."

"Nice. Trevor, you and I can hang out until the 23rd; that's when we're leaving. Best offer," I say with a smile.

"That's why you're my favorite, TK. Dan and Mandy are taking you all to Aspen, right?" He asks, and I nod.

"Jealous. I love boarding. You're going to have a blast," he says.

"I'd rather go to Iowa or New Mexico," I say with a laugh.

"What! Why. It's so boring out there. Our grandparents live in a tiny town. All of us coming out there like triples the population," says Jamie, referring to her three uncles and their 9 other cousins

I look at Ryan cause I already told him, but oh well, "I've never left the state, really. We went to the Grand Canyon when I was like 1, but I don't remember it."

"Oh, I'm sorry, TK. We should go on a road trip sometime," she says.

I nod and take my phone from Ryan. He was looking at the background—a group photo of us all he took the weekend before at a Christmas village. Trevor and Ryan are always on the outside, holding the phone with their long arms. I like this photo a lot cause secretly, I loved getting the half-hug from Ryan when we took it.

"Ok. Ok. Secret Santa time. Who's first?" Says Trevor.

Jamie jumps and shouts that she wants to go first at the same time that I hear Mandy call my name.

"I'll be back. Start without me," I tell the group.

I run up the stairs and see Dan and Mandy standing in the kitchen looking serious, "oh, am I in trouble?" I ask.

"You're not. Report cards came today, and someone," she points to Eric, "needs help with math. If you don't mind when school starts again. Please," she says.

"Of course. We can make it work around Hockey. That starts on the 3rd," I say.

She nods and hands me my report card, "let's see how you did."
