Coloured Shadows

A world of coloured shadows
Where all dreams shall fulfill
Fabled for sparkling waters
Running by a dreamy hill

T'was at the end of the great sea
So said valiant sailors
And dragon slayers
That hadn't returned still

They heard only stories
And stories were enough
Enticing hundreds on the journey
Abandoning their golden mill

One by one they all sailed
Until none were left, but the ordinary townsman
So he too swayed after the rest

He struggled and saved
For months on end
Swimming for the grave test

Finally he embarked, bidding farewell
To be on the land of the best

Borrowing the last boat
That he promised to return
Started his journey with fervour

The sea was strange and unfriendly
Upturning him soon with no shelter

Not giving up he swam for days
Dreaming of the vibrant shores
With eternal food and water

After months of peril
No more than skin and bones
But elated still, from afar
As he spotted the mystical land

Running to the shore
He found his mates
Caged within an iron stand

They looked half dead and unhappy
Nothing like his mind's image

He ran toward them
Confused and shocked
While a mammoth of a bird
Lifting him by her talons
Dropped him in her food cage

As the townsman waited to be eaten
He wrote on a paper with his quill...

A world of coloured shadows
Where all dreams shall fulfill
Fabled for sparkling waters
Running by a dreamy hill
