I opened my eyes and looked at the clock. 7:30 AM.
I wonder if Varian's awake...

I go to the bathroom and look at the mirror as I fix my hair, wash my face and brush my teeth.

I go down to Varian's lab. I open the heavy door...
He was laying on the floor in the middle of the room, surrounded by papers. Still sleeping.

I wonder if it'll be okay to wake him up. I'm sure he won't beat me up.

I sit next to him on my knees and got his messy hair off his face.

"Varian... Varian, wake up..."

Damn he is a heavy sleeper.

"Varian."
I say a bit loud, slightly shaking him.

"AAAAAAAAA!
WHAT? WHAT HAPPENED?
IS EVERYONE SAFE-
oh. Oops, sorry about that."

Varian giggled when he saw that I jumped to the other side of the room.

He stood up and stretched.
"But today is a new day for new inventions! Are you ready, Y/N?"

Varian helped me up.
"Indeed. What do you have planned?"
I asked.

"As you know, there isn't much hot water here. I had that idea a few days ago to surprise our little village!"

Awww, how thoughtful of him.
"Wonderful! How can I help?"

"The system will work with a chemical that'll react with a small explosion, heating the water.
I think I found a formula for this kind of chemical! Here."
Varian handed me a paper he had on the desk. It was the same one he had written on when I arrived here.

"These are some... extreme calculations. Are you sure you want to do something so risky?"

Varian sighed and looked down in sadness. He was so desperate to get his father's attention...

"Don't worry, Varian. We'll make it work. I know the perfect place to get the metals we need for the machines."

Here's that sweet smile!

"And... here!"
Varian used his hammer on the last screw.

"Oh my gosh... we actually finished them all..."
I whisper.

We were going in the tunnels and building secretly those machines for days.

"Thank you SO MUCH for your help... I've never had anyone-"

"Save it, V'. This is what friends are for! Now, let's do a little test run."

Varian nodded with a wide smile and poured his un-named chemical into the machine.
There was a big explosion. A little more then what we've calculated, but not too much.

"It's working!"
I exclaimed and kissed Varian on the cheek.

FREAK.
WHAT HAVE I DONE.

I just quickly threw an excuse and left the underground. I didn't even look at his face- I was so embarrassed...

I just stood there like an idiot as Y/N stormed off.
I should've said something...

Y/N and I became so close that I didn't even mind.

I should probably go back to the house and calm her down. But how...?
She doesn't like talking about her emotions and all of that...

I whistled as I went on my way.
Y/N's power to stay strong after a tragic event really inspired me.
She is a kind, thoughtful girl.
I couldn't have built all of this without her help and encouragement.

I opened the door to my lab and got in as Y/N finished writing something.
"Hey Y/N-"

"V-Varian! L-Look at t-this!"

Y/N shoved her papers in my face, shyly looking at the floor.

She planned a specific trap outside our house, at the pathway, next to a tree.

"Why's that?"
I asked.

"I-I noticed t-that all kinds of p-pests eat from the apple tree before a-ariving h-here, so I d-decided to stop them b-before they e-even enter t-this place."
Y/N mumbled.

"Hmmm... that's... pretty smart, actually! Never thought of that."
I complimented her.
Y/N giggled in embarrassment.

"I'll go and set the traps. You take care of the Y/Nlium."

Y/N gasped in surprise as she realized I named the chemical after her.
"I... I... y-you shouldn't h-had-"

I kissed Y/N's hand in a playful gesture and left.
