Chapter 9- Frozen In The Fire (also: be very afraid)

Varian p.o.v

Rapunzel gave us Demanitus's ancient scroll to de-code, and Y/N and I were excited to hear help.
He is my inspiration, and he soon became Y/N's too.

"Demanitus... What does that mean..."
I whisper to myself.

Y/N took a break and stood in the background with a paper next to my chemical writings, probably calculating something.

I look at her and smile.
She is so cute with her concentrated look...
AHEM I NEED TO CONCENTRATE TOO
I make myself turn my head away and continue trying to decode the scroll.
I hear my father's voice as he enters the room, but then...

"VARIAN!"
I hear my dad shout.

I turn around, seeing Y/N crying as the ember encased my dad.
She stand and looks at me in dread.

"It's all your fault, Varian.
I HATE you. I'd rather be encased then be with you."
Y/N said coldly and stepped back, letting the ember take her, too.

"Y/N! PLEASE! I'M SORRY! I-"

The people of Corona bursted through the door and seen what happened. They started cornering me, angry.

"varian...
Hey, Varian...
VARIAN, SNAP OUT OF IT!"
I open my eyes wide.
Y/N was holding me in front of her with a worried look.

"Y-You fell a-asleep and started s-screaming a-and-"
I hug Y/N tightly, silently crying on her shoulder.
She stopped talking and let both of us collapse to the floor. She wrapped her hands around me and comforted me.

I calmed down after a long minute.
"You had a bad dream?"
Y/N asked.

"Y-Yea..."
I mumbled.

"Hey, let's go out and get some fresh air. We've been sitting here with that scroll for hours.
Well, I cheated a bit."
Y/N winked at me.

I stand down and go towards the paper she wrote.
"What DID you do there, by the way?"

"N-NOTHING! Let's go out already...!"
Y/N dragged me before I could read what she wrote.
What is she hiding from me?

Ruddiger climbed on me as we walked out.
"Hello son, Y/N."
My dad said as he passed by us.

"Ah, what a beautiful day."
Y/N presented.

Suddenly, Ruddiger jumped down and ran to... a RED rock...?
Then he walked back in fear.

I take Y/N by the hand to the rock. She looked at it in confusion.

"Well... this is new."
I observed the rock.

"Wait, where did Ruddiger go...?"
Y/N looked around.

"Ruddiger, where are you?"
Both of us go to the city, still searching.
I ignored all the looks from the citizens. Finding Ruddiger is much more important than my reputation.

"There!"
Y/N pointed at the roof above us.
We started running after him, but I was a bit faster.

"Buddy! Wait! Where are you going?"
In my way, I accidentally bump into the shoe seller and a woman with a baby.

"Woops! Sorry! Hi..."
I awkwardly apologise.

"Don't you have a kingdom to overthrow or something?"
He answered, mocking me.

I try to laugh it off.
"You haven't seen a raccoon around here, haven't you...?"
I try to ask, but he and the woman looked away. The baby started crying.

"Good morning, Sir, madame! Hello there, lil bud! Boop!"
Y/N arrived quickly. She booped cutely the baby's nose and he stopped crying, started laughing.
