The next morning they went to find the royal merchant. John B and Pope where in charge of the monitor, JJ drove, Kie lowered the drone into the water and Emilie marked how many feet down it was.
"All right, JJ. Pin it here." John B called.
"Roger that! X marks the spot."
"All right, ladies and gentlemen. To going full Kook." John B said throwing the drone in the water.
"All right, JJ, we're right over it. Ten seconds northwest."
"Got it! Ten seconds northwest." JJ calls back.
"One hundred feet." Emilie yells making a mark on the side of the boat with chalk.
Suddenly Pope gasped
"What? What, what, what, what?" John B asked.
"It's nothing." Pope said "Sorry, I thought..."
"Don't do that to me, man." JJ says.
"And to quote The Hobbit, "Down, down, to Goblin Town. Down, down, you go, my lad." Pope says.
"Four hundred feet!" Emilie yelled.
"The tide's turning." Kie called out.
"Hey, JJ?" John B called.
"Yup?"
"Ten seconds easy. South-southeast."
"Copy that!"
"JJ, 20 seconds mid-speed, all right? South."
"Copy that! Aye, aye."
"Keep the tether out of the prop!" John B yelled.
"I'm trying!" Kie yelled back.
"John B, is that good?" JJ asks.
"We're good!"
"Okay, 700 feet!" Emilie calls.
"JJ, hold it steady!" John B yells.
"900!"
"JJ, we'll turtle in this storm."
"920!"
"Crank it north by northwest! Ten seconds." John B called. "Pope, how are we doing?"
"Almost there."
"There's too much current! We're gonna lose it!." Kie yells.
"South, southwest, JJ! Hard!"
"What do you got, Pope? Come on, man. What do you see?" John B asks.
"Nothin'. A whole lot of nothin'." Pope replies.
"You should be right above it, brother."
"Kiara! Emilie!"
"960. 970! 980!" Emilie yells back.
"I'm at the bottom! I'm at the bottom!" Pope says.
"Okay, steady here, JJ!"
"Steady here. Quarter speed, all right?"
"You should be seeing something, man."
"I know, I know! Wait, wait."
"Oh, my God." John B says.
"See anything?" JJ asks.
"It's the royal merchant"
They look through the ship but there's no sign of any gold.
"It's not there. Look, just... just pull the drone up."
