"Dr Grey, we'll need to give her a feeding tube" Christopher started

"Why?" Ellis asked as she filled in a patient's chart

"It's been 4 days since her treatment started and she doesn't wanna eat" Arizona sighed. Ellis would have known if she would have visited Meredith

"Go ahead," Ellis said and waited until the doctors turned around. She was close to crying, well, Ellis close

"Meredith, sweetie. Can you wake up for us?" Christopher stroked her forehead

Meredith groaned in pain as she shifted

"We're gonna give you something that will help you. It's a tube that will bring food into your tummy

"No! Huwts!" Meredith only used single words anymore, feeling ashamed of how she could barely make a sentence

"It won't hurt your tummy, it will help. I promise" Arizona whispered

"Po- pwomise?" Meredith quietly looked up at Arizona

"I promise"

"Kay" Meredith said but buried herself underneath her blanket

"Can I set you on my lap while Arizona and Carolyn will bring in the tube?" Christopher asked

Meredith shrugged

"Come on, brave girl" Christopher smiled and held her in his arms

"Okay, sweetie. This will feel a bit weird but I know you'll handle this like a boss" Arizona said

Carolyn helped Arizona with handing her the tools she needed

"Okay, I'm gonna go in now" Arizona said

"N-noo!" Meredith started screaming and covered her face weakly with her hands

"Mer, sweetie.. we need to go in so we can help you" Carolyn whispered

"Said no!" Meredith cried out

"Let's give her some anesthesia" Christopher suggested as he kept the sobbing girl close in his arms

"I'm on it" Arizona nodded

"Hey, brave girl.. You're gonna be okay" Carolyn brushed her fingers over Meredith's cheeks

"Am- Ame-ia?" She whispered as she stopped sobbing

"You want Amelia to come over?" Carolyn guessed

Meredith nodded in response

"Well, I'm almost done for today and I'm going to get the younger kids from school, I can bring them over if you want?" Carolyn suggested

Meredith smiled weakly as she was exhausted after everything so far but she was clearly ready to see someone of her age

"Derek and Mark will come too, is it okay if I bring them?"

Meredith nodded her head again as Arizona returned back in the room

Christopher adjusted the girl in his arms as Arizona gave her the light sedative. Her body relaxed in his arms even if she kept trying to hold them back with her hand

"Shh, quiet, it will be over before you know" Christopher whispered and brushed his fingers through her hair

"You did so good" Carolyn smiled and wiped away the tears that escaped Meredith's eyes

"M..ommy?" Her speech was slow and slurred

"She'll come over soon" Arizona whispered

"Let's bring you to bed so you can sleep before the kids come over to play" Carolyn smiled "Is there anything you like in particular? Cars, dolls, stuffed animals?"

"D- D-o..ll" She whispered back

"I'll ask Amelia to pack some for you" Carolyn smiled

"Th-ank" Meredith smiled

Carolyn tried to force a smile while her heart was breaking for the lonely girl

This happened too a few year ago when Derek brought home his friend Mark who now lived in their house

"De-Dewek, Ma-k laugh?" Meredith asked as she weakly grabbed onto Carolyn's hand

"Of course not, dear" Carolyn brushed her fingers one last time over the little girl's cheeks as she, her husband and Arizona walked out of the room as Meredith fell asleep

"I'm gonna go get the kids" Carolyn sighed as she looked a final time into Meredith's room

Christopher kissed his wife on her forehead as she left

"I guess we all have a hard time in this case" Arizona sighed

"Her mother is here almost 24/7 and she only passes by to look at her daughter through the window" Chistopher said, clearly being irritated

"Now go, let her sleep" Arizona put her hand on Christopher's back

...

"But be quiet. You guys can play with Meredith but no yelling, and no laughing!" Carolyn said sternly

"Why would we laugh?" Amelia frowned

"Meredith's speech is a bit slurred because she's sick and her hands are a bit slow" Carolyn told them

"We're not gonna laugh, mom" Derek assured his mother

"Okay we're close!" Carolyn smiled as Amelia skipped in front of them, she couldn't wait to meet the little girl again

Amelia knocked on the door and carefully opened it, revealing Meredith who was laying on her side, rubbing her forehead

"Hi, Meredith!" Amelia said excited and stepped in

"Hi" both boys said and followed their little sister inside

"Hi, dear. How have you been doing?" Carolyn asked as she checked Meredith's chart

"Kay" Meredith whispered

"Can I sit on your bed?" Amelia asked

Meredith nodded with a weak smile

Amelia handed Meredith a few dolls. It was noticable for all the kids how much difficulty Meredith had with holding the doll

"Let us help" Derek said and held Meredith's doll in her place "I'll keep it up, put your hand over it and lead it" Derek told her

"Thank" She smiled

Carolyn was watching them while tears started to pool in her eyes

"Am-Ame-" Meredith struggled to say

"We call her Amy, maybe you can call her that too?" Mark said

"Am-y" Meredith smiled

"Maybe we should watch a movie?" Carolyn said, seeing how exhausted Meredith was after the little play

"Yeah! Meredith, what's your favourite Disney movie?" Amelia asked her

She shrugged her shoulders

"Haven't you seen any Disney movies? Snowwhite, sleeping beauty, Frozen?" Amelia gasped

"Mom n-o w-an-"

"Your mom wouldn't let you?" Amelia frowned as she seemed to flawlessly understand Meredith's slurred speech

Meredith shook her head no

"I think you would like Brave!" Derek suggested

"Then we'll watch Brave" Carolyn smiled

"We can watch every Disney movie with you as long as you're here" Amelia smiled and got a smile from Meredith in return
